Rumor: Barnes and Warriors have reached agreement
It's being rumored on some internet boards that Barnes and the Warriors have reached an agreement on a contract.
It's being rumored on some internet boards that Barnes and the Warriors have reached an agreement on a contract.
Nothing official has been announced. Nothing seems to confirm this.
But the source was reprted to be pretty reliable and 'usually ahead of the rest of the media by about 24 hours' to paraphrase one poster who believed in this poster.
It's a rumor. It's pretty much taken as fact on one board. Let's wait and see.

A source close to the situation told Basketball News late on Saturday that the Golden State Warriors could be close to an agreement to bring the unrestricted free agent swingman back to the team. Terms discussed in the negotiations are not yet known and have not been finalized, but the source indicated that "something could be solidified very soon." While we're all here to throw up that W, these words do not necessarily reflect the views of the GSoM Crew. Still, chances are the preceding post is Unstoppable Baby!

Exactly
From here on out, whenever the Warriors make a sideways, questionable, non-impact move like signing Barnes we'll all say "hey at least he's better than Austin Croshere". It's like Mullin has lowered our expectations for the rest of the offseason.
Still, got nothing but love for Barnes though. Nobody else left on the board I'd rather have at the backup 3 (besides possibly Ricky Davis if he were available).

do you think that the warriors are gonna get jwill?
by pfree on Aug 5, 2007 1:22 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
I thought about Jason Williams
I still think Will would be a great fit, more importantly, his contract expires after this season, which then gives us the oppertunity to draft a young PG in an upcoming loaded class...
To answer your question, for what its worth, I think the Warriors have done a brilliant job and have showed alot of patience with Pietrus.
I think their still playing chicken with a couple teams that want him, but in the end, he will re-sign for 1 yr. and then will be included in a package that will send he and Harrington elsewhere.
Im interested in seeing what they will do with Sarunas. I think alot of teams would love to add him to their depth, and he could be extremely valuable as a piece in a packaged deal.
what do you think?
by BlueNgoldBlood on Aug 5, 2007 7:25 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
DREAMING
Anyways, I hope he does re-sign, but I hope he doesn't grow out his hair, but if he did, I think I'm a fortune teller or something! Maybe a MAGIC 8-BALL, but w/ two!
THE END!

question mark
With J-rich gone, everybody is going to have to step up to plug that hole in production. I mean, if he's brought in exclusively for defense and energy, then who cares if his shooting goes up/down. Still though, it'd be nice.

This might be the best news of the offseason
On the AK trade I would be ALL for it. I think we might be able to steal him for the TPE and Cabbages or something of that nature.Everything I have read about the Jazz owners words about AK are not good. He seems to want him out (sorry I can't find a link)
If we can get him without giving up Harrington I would LOVE our team next year and put us at a 3-6 seed because of the improvment of some of our youngsters and our extreme depth.
BD/ JWILL
Ellis/ Belinelli/ Buke
JAX/ BArnes/Buke
AK/ Harrington/ Wright
AB/Cro/ garbage/ garbage/ garbage
Now that is a good lineup and perfect for nelli-ball

No way
Barnes isn't a $5M/year player, so i think we got a good deal if the price, at the most, is 3 years, $12M. I wouldn't want to go longer or more expensive that that, really.
If those are the terms, then I think Mullin did a pretty good job. Again, he has not overpaid for any free agents and he hasn't oversent his assets our of desperation or frustration.
Let's review the overall offseason:
The Magic pretty much bent themselves by giving Lewis a ridiculous contract while also extending Howard; New York just stabbed themselves even more; Phoenix gave away its best frontcourt defender. Those were the stupid moves.
Portland and Seattle made a bunch of sexy moves because they were in a position to do so, and they've gotten their rebuilding under way. Boston got the Big Ticket and jumped into contention.
We, on the other hand, have done pretty much nothing. Lost one piece (Richardson), gained another (Wright), and replaced others (Pietrus for Belinelli) while building depth (Croshere, Perovic, keeping Barnes).
So while we have moved mostly laterally this offseason, we still have the ability to make a move (here comes the key part) when the opportunity arises.
One move passed us by, ok. We're still in a position to do something, so if, for example, AK comes on the market (which he isn't now) or if Artests' price comes down (hasn't yet), then we CAN be all over it.
Anyways, I digress.
Barnes: no more than $12M/3years please.

Its a good thing.
I hate to say it again, but I think we're going to see a deal go down as soon as Pietrus comes back with his tail between his legs, and as soon as the Aug. 6 restriction comes undone.
