GSoM YouTube Tuesday: Pay Him. Pay That Man His Money.

What does the 2007/2008 season hold in store for the Warriors? With some bold off-season moves, is it feasible to think that we are going to maintain our newly acquired contender status? Are we simply going to slide back into the realm of mediocrity once again?

On one side of the coin our hopes are infused in a team that seems to be getting younger and younger with every move we make. On the other, we’ve seen the maturation, both mentally and physically, of players like Monta and Biedrins; players who will need to start to lead this team rather than follow.

But behind it all we pin our hopes to the man. The Coach. The man who took the flaws of a poorly organized Warriors team and helped each player recognize their potential. The man that not only took the Warriors to the post-season, but made them a feared name among the NBA elite once they were there.

So this week we dug up a little Nellie piece (shot last season before the playoffs) to remind all of us that behind every talented player, there should be a Nelly Belly.

Cough it up Cohan. He’s worth every penny.

i got a question
that im sure it has been asked before, but i never seen it posted on this board.

if you sign a contract can u just ask for more money the next year and say u aren't coming back. to my understanding his contract was for 3 years right? what am i missing here?!?!

the leverage Nellie has...
that most coaches/players don't is that he is willing to walk away from the final two years of his contract. In essence "re" retire.
That is how he is able to do what he is doing. 99% of the coaches and players out there can't/won't threaten to retire rather than live up to the contract they have signed.

Let's Go Oakland! Gas, Brake, Dip.

I love Nellie unconditionally...
but why does he always have to push so hard for more money?  Isn't he doing all right as it is?  Is it a power/respect thing with Cohan?

Pay Him
He helped the Cohan make millions more last season and has this franchise pointed in the right direction. Without him none of the We Believe movement would have ever happened.

If you worked for a company and the owner was completely clueless for over a decade and you brought your magic to the table and helped the squirrel finally find a 10 pound bag of nuts- don't you think you deserve a few extra peanuts? Without you he's still starving.

It's absolutely ridiculous that Cohan doesn't fork over a few million to pay the good man.

Does this argument apply
to players as well?  Should Baron hold out?

by Zig on Sep 12, 2007 11:33 AM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

It's a good point
In the NFL of course players should hold out because the contracts are not guaranteed. In the NBA I'd say no because the salaries are guaranteed and are based on a percentage of the total revenue the league is bringing in (the salary cap). So no, I'd say BD shouldn't hold out.

Nellie isn't getting his fair share of the revenue that Cohan got from the mastermind coach's hard work. It's wrong.
