New Poll: Grade the Warriors Offseason

You're probably saying, "Finally, these lazy bums put up a new poll. Now I can click a radio button and a vote button again. Thank you."

First though, here are the results of the previous poll.

Looks like people are very pleased with the drafting of Wright, Belinelli and Lasme. With 76% of the votes giving Mulson a B or better, maybe this draft will be the one that helps build the future of the Warriors.

The New Poll
I promise, this one won't be up for 4 months. Maybe 3.5 but certainly not 4. This one is all about the Warriors offseason. We're pretty close to winding down the offseason and packing our bags for a grueling training camp in Hawaii. There are a few more things to take care of, Pietrus and Cabbages, but most of the major transactions look done. If I recall correctly, here's what we've seen this offseason:

Update: Oops, silly me, I missed a few:

So unless there's some major mistake Mullin makes in the Pietrus and Cabbages negotiations, everything seems to be set. So look to the right and exercise your right to vote on the grade for the Warriors offseason.

Gave em a C
The only big poistive point this off-season was the Draft.

Wright (Bosh 2.0?)
Belinelli (Steal of the draft)
Lasme (Hello Ike)

Negatives of the season were

-Getting rid of two fan favorites. J-Rich and Foyle (Not in terms of his playing ability but what he has done to the Warriors community)
-Missing out on KG (Even though I did not want him)
-Missing out on Gerald Wallace
-Late signings of Nellie and Pietrus

Incomplete
I'm not 100% sure they're done dealing, and there's still the Baron and AB contracts to address.

So far I give them a solid A- for the trade, the draft, and the way they played hardball with Barnes, Pietrus, and Nellie rather than bid against themselves, as they would have done in the past.

Also, don't forget Azubuike, Croshere, and Perovic -- for the $$$ those could all end up being shrewd signings (though I still don't think we needed Croshere).

No KG 0.2!?!?!
Just kidding...i kinda wish we didn't sign him because it might've forced Nellie to play Wright in meaningful minutes rather than rely on his "vet" PF...booo!

The City of Oakland (if not the whole Bay Area)
...Should get an "A" for all the hype we put out there and propaganda we fronted... yeah they had hella news on the Lakers wanting KG and even Garnet to LA related posts... we had nothing to lose and a grip of heads we could have used in trades to put in the offering table... in the end Boston swooped up the deal... oh well, but Boston didn't have sh!t on our comics! (lol)

They sure didn't improve.
I don't think they are an improved team during the off season and I don't understand how people gave the warriors off season an A.

I'm actually not quite sure what to expect from the Warriors this upcoming season.

B+
They may not have improved talent-wise, but as many other people have pointed out, they now have one of the most fiscally sound rosters in the NBA.  Draft was good, too, especially considering the position.  They've basically done everything right except bringing in an elite level player (i.e. KG, AK-47).  And even that wasn't for lack of trying.  Of course, Mulson may not be done dealing, so we'll see what happens.

Does anyone else feel like the $10m trade exception is burning a hole in the team's pockets?  Hopefully they can get someone worthwhile with it.

RACK IT UP!!! We believed. Playoffs '07. One Dub!

Yeah I can't wait...
for mulson to use that exception...high hopes i tell ya! high hopes!

well
they got a perimeter player, they got rid of a fat contract, they got a rebounder/post player (crosses fingers), and a shot blocker and rebounder in Lasme.  So its pretty close to an A since we were lacking these things last year.  Of course we won't see drastic changes right away but I think our future is bright.

I give 'em a B
The Jrich move is just so huge one way or another that a B seems right in the middle between a C(if Wright can't get it done) to an A(if he balances out  the team's ability between front court and backcourt).

Folye Buyout, Belineli pick and nellie coming back all help make it solid too.

by SkipT on Sep 19, 2007 10:26 PM PDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Nellie
Nellie's back that's all that matters right?

I'm sad to see J-Rich go but looking forward the move, along with the Foyle buyout, gives us the cap room to lock up our young core of Beans, Monta, and Wright. As far as this year goes a combination of an improved Monta and Belinelli should make up for the loss of J-Rich. I give them a solid B for the offseason. Now lets just get AK-47 to play inside with Biedrins and I'll change my vote to an A.

A-
It's all about Marco. He is going to be the straight diggity.  And cross your fingers for Be Right. Kelenna is really good, and I'm glad Barnes will be back.  I also have a good feeling about Kosta.  I caught a glimpse of him just standing there at summer league last year, he is a BIG boy, and Eurovets don't seem to be lost like other rookies.

They get the minus from me because they haven't been able to get anything out of Rooney or MP yet.  When MP missed those free throws he became dead to me.

We also lost Powell, right?  Too bad, he had a big bod and always played garbage time with fire.

POB will ANCHOR the Jam. Woo.

I have been feeling Mully since he stole Baron mid season, I bet he is gonna figure out how to get something brilliant with the exemption, we may just have to wait for it.

Here's hoping we are on the good side of lots of garbage time soon...

KG, Shmay-G.

Look at this depth.
  1. Baron Davis, Sarunas (Pierce), Ellis
  2. Ellis, Belinelli, Buike
  3. Jackson, Pietrus, Barnes
  4. Harrington, Wright, Lasme
  5. Biedrins, Croshere, Perovic, POB
2nd quarter? No worries.
  1. Ellis
  2. Belinelli
  3. Pietrus/Barnes
  4. Wright
  5. Croshere
or swap Wright to the 5 and 4 to Pietrus, and 3 to Barnes. incredible...

Now, if Sarunas leaves, then who replaces though.

Heats backed out and now the Warriors are back with Pietrus with a steal. This is def. an A offseason.

That's 15 guys
First you have to cut three.

Then you have to divide up 48 minutes only at each position.

Try it, just for fun. It's tough, isn't it? You can't play everyone 15-20 minutes. Who are the odd men out?

B
This offseason was ok.  They signed who they needed to sign and got rid of players who weren't performing.  I'll miss jrich, but he wasn't worth what we paid for him. It also affected the team chemistry. Missing out on KG was certainly a downer.  Signing him, we would be in the playoffs gauranteed.  I think we should sign and trade MP.  I'm not even sure he's worth what we offered him.  And just let sarunas go.  He reminds me of rony seikaly.  Trade him or just let him go.

D
I gave a D but now I feel a little bad for doing so.  C might've been the correct way to go on this one.  How people gave out an A is baffling..."grade the offseason" isn't specific enough, because if I have my eye on the future, then yeah maybe an A...but if I want to win now (which I do), at best you're talking a C.  At best.

The negative of acquiring Kirilenko....
... they'd have to stop airing Baron's playoff jam at the arena in order to keep Andrei from crying.

D
Had an opportunity to get one of the best players of the year and didn't because our cheap owner wanted to save some money. Our team is the same as it was last year, which is good because we were a good team and now we're less expensive, but the goal of any offseason is to improve and we didn't. I don't fault owners for making stupid decisions because it's their money, but when your owner is both greedy and apathetic it's hard to not complain.
