Kawakami Blog: Nelson speaks
I know we all knew that Nellie really loved Belinelli, but read this blog entry by TK: http://www.mercextra.com/blogs/kawakami/
"I'm assuming Belinelli's really ready to go," Nelson said. "The guy's got stardom written all over him."wow, nelson said that there are no real comparisons to this kid in the NBA. I know the Nellie blows smokescreens sometimes, but he is also the most honest coach you ever heard. I hope he's on the latter tip right now.
Some other good stuff in this entry too. Please do read.
I am so pumped for Oct. 30th. Well really I am so pumped for Oct. 2nd when training camp starts.
I Nellie I trust.

As TK says:
But while Nellie is incredibly honest, he's also been known to err in judgment. Wagner was mentioned in the blog comments; I also think about Dunleavy as a PF, which was basically an idea Nellie raved about as a sure success. That is, until they played the first game of the season and he found out he was dead wrong. Belinelli might play his way into the starting 2 position, but Nellie could be wrong about his immediate effectiveness and he'll go to the bench at the blink of an eye.

Is there anyone
Also, with Nellie, you're never sure how much of what you're hearing is actually "judging" and how much is deception, motivational ploy, playful BS, and just general chain-yanking...

Dunleavy not a fair comparison
Even so, you have to be skeptical. I don't know why Nelson would say these things though if he didn't really think they were to come true.
Check out our starting 5, assuming Belinelli and Harrington are among them: 4 very solid 3-point shooters. That should allow Baron, Monta, and Biedrins plenty of room to operate in the paint. If Kazu and Barnes can come off the bench and drain some shots when Belinelli, Jackson, and Al are off, that will make this team even more unstoppable.

wagner not a fair comparison either
Regardless, this Belinelli cat is gonna be fun to watch and I'm salivating at the mere prospect of him turning into a superstar.
Point definitely taken though...Nellie has made some mistakes, but he's also made numerous "great finds": Spree, Hardaway, Nowitzki, Nash (to a certain extent) and i'm sure there are others i'm not remembering.

Starting Lineup My guess
SG Marco Ellis
F Jackson Barnes
PF Croshure Harrington Wright
C AB Peravic
its really hard to tell but i have heard that nellie loves Austin C and marco B alot of times this offseason.
we saw what happened last year with Harrington some he didnt play cause of rebounding and inconsistancy really in the playoffs to.
I think Ellis is better off the bench.
I like Croshure at the 4......
He can rebound and Knock down 3 balls to.

If Croshere is our starting PF
Austin Croshere sucks. He barely belongs in the NBA. Did you not think to yourself "EXcellent!!!" (/Mr. Burns/) when Avery would bring him in against us? The only time he should get off the bench is late in games when when we need either five 3-point shooters or five good FT shooters on the floor. 2-8 minutes a game max.
I'm pretty sure -- fingers crossed -- Mulson realize this. I'd actually think there's a much better chance of Croshere getting cut in camp than being our starting PF (if, for example, two out of POB or Perovic and Lasme make good impressions).
Meanwhile, where are Azubuike and Pietrus on your list? Both of them are much more effective, versatile players than THud, Kostacoast, or Cro-magnon.

don't worry
- Belinelli starting
- Ellis will earn his pay as a 1
- Croshere = 4, not 5, not starting 4
- Lasme = 4, not 3 or 5
- Baron, Ellis, Hudson
- Belinelli, Azubuike
- Jackson, Barnes
- Harrington, Croshere, Lasme, Wright
- Biedrins, (Harrington)

You ain't seen Nellieball yet
If Wright and/or Lasme show they can play, I don't think Nelson will have any problem giving them some of Barnes' minutes at the 3. Not that there aren't minutes to go around at PF with Harrington expected to log 15 minutes a game at center.... and I'm also not sure why you have Lasme in front of Wright. That is, a second rounder in front of the 8th overall pick. Don't you think a preseason interview is a little premature to make that judgement?
The strategy to use Ellis mostly as a replacement (to Baron) could limit his numbers, but it could also blow up in the warriors's faces.
Kind of a letdown to see JRich not on that list, but still an exciting lineup. When is opening night?

Premature lineup musing...
With the understanding that "starting" doesn't necessarily mean playing 30-35 minutes when you're using a 10-man rotation at Nellieball pace, I'd be intrigued to see us trot out this starting 5:
Baron
Belinelli
Harrington
Lasme
Biedrins
A pretty balanced, athletic, versatile bunch, imo. You could criticize it for the two rookies, but neither is really a true rook, Belinelli having played professionally for years and Lasme being 24. You have two guys who can fill it up and make plays from anywhere, two guys who set screens, play mad D, and board like crazy, and BD, the boss who stirs the drink.
In any case, I'd prefer both Lasme and Wright at starting PF to Croshere, who's too slow to be a dominant rebounder in Nellieball, and whose only other semi-skill -- shooting from deep -- is duplicated, much more effectively, by Harrington.
Presumably Jax would take over the starting SG role after serving his suspension, unless Belinelli truly does have "stardom written all over him." I agree with Nellie and others who say Monta's role should be full-time backup PG/"super sixth man," leading the second unit wiith Azubuike, Barnes, and Wright.
Sorry, this post doesn't really have a point, does it? As BingBluNT says, "when is opening night?"

Guessing Game
Starting Belinelli at the 2, and Jackson at the 3, though does sort of clear a path for Wright and Lasme to get a lot of playing time: with shooters on the wings the warriors will look for a power forward with more inside game.
I still worry about playing Lasme next to a center who lives in the same neighborhood as the restricted area. Things could get a little crowded down there....
and the forgotten man in all this is Barnes. If he picks up where he left off last year, could he see time at PF? I think Barnes will see time guarding bigmen when this team wants to go small. Meaning Kazu and the rookies, and Pietrus if he's back, would spend more time at the 3.

Whoa, whoa, whoa......wait a minute.
As for Ellis, I don't know why they are forcing him to be a PG. He turns the ball over too much and is not the best decision maker. Leave him at the two and maybe he can develop into a more athletic Rip Hamilton.
As for Croshere, I got to agree with Freud, this guy is garbage. He is not someone that is going to help clean the glass off the bench and does not give us depth at the 4 or 5. Let's see what the 4 young kids can do backing up Biedrins and Harrington. Maybe taking a stab at trading an unhappy Pietrus for a big.

Forcing Ellis at PG
If he fails at PG, well his price goes down next offseason. If he succeeds then maybe the number we are willing to give Baron goes down. Either way I think it would be good to give him a while at PG before passing judgement.
