GSoF: Week 3 Recap and Week 4 Picks

What did we learn in Week 3?

Ugly jerseys win games! They also provide some good looking cheerleaders!

Where did these colors come from?

The Cowboys and Patriots are waiting to play someone that can keep up with them.

The Raiders finally won a game! Wooohoooo!!!

Say what you want about the 49ers loss, but they still showed promise in the offensive side of the ball. I like Fooch's take at Niner Nation.

Big shot out to all the SB Nation friends!

Mad props to tut123408 for going 12-4 last week and receiving the highest Ballhype score within the GSoM Community for the Week 3 NFL picks! tut123408- hit us up through e-mail goldenstwarriors@gmail.com to claim your Baron Davis poster with the e-mail address that you registered with at Ball Hype/ GSoM. I was in a close third with 10-6 (where you at Atma and Fantasy?) but I'ma get first this week! Check out the entire GSoM community Week 3 standings over here.

Now on to my Week 4 Predictions after the click!

Star-divide

Picks

Week 4 Matchups
Prediction
Jets (1-2) @
Bills (0-3)

The Bills are even worse off now that they've lost their starting QB. Looks like they're up for the #1 pick in the draft!

Ravens (2-1) @
Browns (1-2)

The Ravens are plagued with injuries, but they have enough firepower left to destroy the inconsistent Browns.

Rams (0-3) @
Cowboys (3-0)

With Stephen Jackson out and Marc Bulger injured, the Rams are about to have a lot of trouble against the Cowboys on Sunday. Easy win for the boys in Blue.

Bears (1-2) @
Lions (2-1)

Lovie Smith FINALLY took some initiative and benched the Gross-Man. Gresie isn't that much of an improvement, but he won't lose games like Rex. I'm still going with the Lions in this NFC North battle.

Texans (2-1) @
Falcons (0-3)

A few months ago, this game was meaningless. Now, Falcons fans are going to see if they should have kept Schaub or if Joey Harrington is good enough to hold the starting QB position.

Packers (3-0) @
Vikings (1-2)

Brett Favre is having one hell of a season and showing that he's still got what it takes to bring this low-talent Packers team to the playoffs. So far, they're 3-0, who's going to stop em'?

Buccaneers (2-1) @
Panthers (2-1)

Which one will take the NFC South? Whoever wins this game!

Steelers (3-0) @
Cardinals (1-2)

Last week was a sad one for Leinhart and his fans. After getting replaced by Kurt Warner, Matt got shown how to play in the NFL by the ex-Ram. Unfortunately for the Cardinals, none of that really matters as the Steelers are about to trample all over this poor team!

Denver (2-1) @
Colts (3-0)

4-0 Colts.

Chiefs (1-2) @
Chargers (1-2)

"PLAYOFFS?! DON'T TALK ABOUT PLAYOFFS! ARE YOU KIDDING ME? PLAYOFFS?! I'M JUST HOPING WE CAN WIN A GAME, ANOTHER GAME!" - Jim Mora.

Chargers in the Superbowl? Let's worry about it one game at a time fellas...

Eagles (1-2) @
Giants (1-2)

Wearing those nasty colored jersey sparked some life in the Eagles last week as they put up 56 points against the Lions! Wear the blue and yellow jerseys every week!
Patriots (3-0) @
Bengals (1-2)

Can the Patriots be stopped?

Prediction
Raiders (1-2) @
Dolphins (0-3)

Raiders are soon to be .500. Daunte was named the starter and he's about to tear up the surprisingly weak Dolphins defense. I love it! By the way, anyone notice that LaMont Jordan is 2nd in the NFL with rushing yards? I'm looking forward to the 8-8 season!

Seahawks (2-1) @
49ers (2-1)

The winner of this game is crowned #1 in the NFC West for a week. Although Frank Gore and the 9ers running game was nonexistent last week, Alex Smith, "The Disease," and Darrell Jackson showed that we do have an amazing passing game. Now all we need is consistency! And what better way to start our track of consistency than by tearing up the Seahawks?

Teams with Byes - Jaguars, Saints, Redskins, Titans

What are your thoughts about Week 2? Where do you think the upsets will be in Week 3?

You all know the drill - jump on over to Ballhype and make your predictions. You know what's on the line:

Keep Your Eyes on the Prize
  • The highest scoring GSoMer from each week of NFL picks will win a Baron Davis poster from our friends at FSN Bay Area
  • At the end of the season the top 3 high scorers will each receive a pair of lower-bowl Warriors tickets

Remember to hit up your comments about this week's games.

LOL
You think that cheerleader looks good?  I've seen better, but I guess thats the most provocative picture you could probably find from that game.

As far as the 49ers go... yea there is a lot to say.  But every fan and their father's brother in -law cousins' former college roommate knows that the 49ers rely heavily on frank gore and his running game, so they are all trying to shut down the run.

But to be honest, I'm not sure that comment about Alex Smith is warranted.  Granted he hasn't been the best player, he didn't play that bad against the Steelers.  In fact most of the times he got sacked, it wasn't because he wasn't able to move out of the pocket, it was because his line couldn't give him one second to GTFO.  That being said, things could be a lot worse, and I hope they can get a win or at least show up to win.

Question:  Been busy so haven't had time to look into it... is Vernon Davis still hurt?  I know he went out of the game the other weekend with a sprain injury.

P.S. That "incomplete pass" call that got reviewed was a total screw up on the ref's part... almost as bad the Arenas shooting foul vs the Warriors.

Give me a break
I don't usually respond to you, but this time, I have to.  1 - 15?  Do you realize they could have easily been 2-1 if it wasn't for a trick late game timeout rule that the coach didn't know about in Denver?  So what did they do? Kept their heads up, and used the exact trick on their opponent the next week.  Furthermore, Dante was used for a few minutes, and those were the minutes we got most of our points lol.  The team is positive, has great chemistry, and the nation is excited that Dante will be starting.  Furthermore, we have this lil guy you might have heard of, his name is JaMarcus Russell, he's the #1 pick, and he's expressed that his QB idol is Dante Culpepper!  Hello! That is chemsitry galore! Freakin dream team duo of QB's.  And one more small side note, we have the #2 rusher in the NFL so far, some hot up and coming receivers, Jerry Porter is still warming up, and our defense has still been horrible, as soon as they get it together and go back to the level they were last year, it's over!

So my final thoughts:  1-15 is just plain hatred.  You wanna say they'll miss the playoffs, fine, I can understand your view.  But I think they have a great shot, every game will be close and fun this season, I feel a Warrior-esque resurgence for the Nation. (Plus they play in the same location, don't forget GSoM is a lot more S.F./peninsula base, the true fans are part of the Raider Nation-Warriors-A's trio of fans!)

Dude
Before the season, I was serious about the prediction. Now that I've seen them play, it's become more of a joke prediction as I've realized how good the Raiders are.

Ok?  I understand that you could've misunderstood me if you didn't read the old NFL game threads. I didn't think many people read this anyway, so I guess I should've been more careful.

Sorry, lol.

Actually
I liked those uniforms on the players too. It's cool to see them respect the 30s.

Major Props to the Raiders and Daunte
Great to see Daunte go nuts like that against a team that didn't give him a fair shot. Tossing 2 TD's and running for 3 against a decent Dolphins D is nice.

Welcome back to the NFL Mr. Culpepper!

by Atma Brother ONE on Sep 30, 2007 5:53 PM PDT   0 recs

Niner D
I won't mention how sorry the offense was, but big ups to that D. I can't believe how many tackles Patrick Willis gets every game. I was skeptical about that big money deal they gave to Nate Clements, but he's proving me wrong. He's a real deal shut down corner.

by Atma Brother ONE on Sep 30, 2007 5:56 PM PDT   0 recs

Silver Lining department...
23-3?

The Niners' "shut down" defense currently ranks #20 in the NFL: at 343 ypg, much closer to the worse team in the league (Buffalo, 430) than the best (New England, 207).

Of course, some of this may be attributable to their execrable offense, which is the worst in the NFL, hands down: 13 yards per game worse than #31 Buffalo, 70 yards worse than the #28 NY Jets, and 135 yards worse than the #10 Raiders. The Patriots and Cowboys are averaging more than twice as many yards per game as the Niners. That's insane.

Meanwhile, Pats fans everywhere start licking their chops at what looks to be at worst a mid first-round pick in 2008...

by Sleepy Freud on Oct 1, 2007 4:20 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Good point, but I'd blame the offense
I bet if the offense wasn't so atrocious, the D would look better statistically. For the most part I'm liking what I've seen so far on the defensive side of the ball.

Don't even mention the Pats to me. Can't stand their Republikkkan owner, that cheater Belichick, and those annoying, whiny Bostonians.

by Atma Brother ONE on Oct 1, 2007 7:57 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Heh heh heh
I knew I could get you to bite on one of my patented "Boston rules" posts.
  • Patriots: best team in football (OK, Indy's probably #1b)
  • Red Sox: best record in baseball
  • Celtics: second best team in the NBA (according to ESPN, anyway)
Life is tough these days for the Boston haters... :-(

by Sleepy Freud on Oct 1, 2007 8:30 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Boston is wackadocious!
Pats: Don't worry Moss will come back down to earth and destroy that team soon.

Red Sox: Don't worry the Yankees will rip their hearts out in a week or two if they get past the Angels.

Celtics: I'm praying they miss the playoffs. Terrible fans, terrible organization.

by Atma Brother ONE on Oct 1, 2007 10:16 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Hater!
Have you even been to Boston? Pretty great place -- great universities, great food, great neighborhoods, full of all kinds of interesting, enlightened, multi-culti people. After NY and SF it may be the best city in the country. One of these days I'll have to take you and the GSoM crew to Fenway Park on a sunny summer day to get a taste of how great it can be. At the very least next time I'm in the Bay Area we should have a GSoM "Sleepy night" at the Connecticut Yankee -- great Boston Bar on Potrero Hill in SF.

Your sports comments aren't really worthy of comment, being as they are clouded by your irrational hatred of all things Boston. I'm not sure what the Pats have to do to win your respect, outside of beat the living crap out of all comers. But you keep holding your breath about Moss -- maybe one of these games he'll actually get held under 100 yards, and then you can gloat and cackle maniacally. ;-D

On the other hand, you're probably right about Yankees v. Red Sox, if it comes to that. I will always fear the Evil Empire. But hey, we'll always have 2004...

by Sleepy Freud on Oct 2, 2007 3:01 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Haha
Sleepy- I'll admit man I'm just giving you a hard time and pulling your leg about Boston. Good natured fun, nothing more so I hope it doesn't come across as anything else.

BUT I'd rather live in India than Boston (not that India's bad at all- world's largest democracy and people take "It's free country" to a whole 'nother level). Boston has awful weather, rude people with accents that are painful to listen to, and snobby university folk (not that my higher education for life self should be talking). I'd venture to say that aside from Harvard and MIT the rest of those "prestigious" Boston universities are overrated and have inflated reps because of East Coast bias. People who go to those schools are suckas who are getting ripped off. It's all about the UC system.

I remember Barry Bonds saying not too long ago something like how Boston was a racist place and he wouldn't want to play there. I won't go that far about it being a racist place, but I've heard it's ridiculously segregated (not that that isn't a huge problem even in the Bay Area too). Plus it's the home to boring and incompetent Democratic presidential candidates such as John Kerry. Aw yes the snobby, elistist, northeastern liberals who are out of touch with us common folk. (Seriously wtf were the democrats thinking with nominating Kerry? Still pisses me off to this day and made me vote Green).

I'm a New Yorker at some level, so I'll say this with pride-- BOSTON SUCKS!

(honestly just messing with you man and no I don't think I've been to Boston since the age of 2)
