GSoM YouTube Tuesday: Looking to the Future

Perhaps today we should pay a little homage to what we hope is going to be a very bright future for the Warriors. I’m talking, of course, about Brandon Wright.

The unfortunate thing about attaining a prospect as promising as Wright is that it came at the loss of one our most prominent leaders. And while the JRich mourning period will never end for some of us, it’s time to look at what’s in our hands amidst the settling dust. What I see is a glimmer of hope.

More specifically, a 6 foot 10 glimmer with a 7 foot wing span. I see a potential defensive monster who has the potential to board (please god let him board) and swat shots effectively. I see a potential offensive threat in an inside man who can finally do some damage in the paint. And yes… I see some big honkin’ ears.

Granted, everything I just mentioned (aside from the last one) is going to take time and development. But take a look at the footage below and see for yourself. The potential is there.

Great wing span - quick moving - agile - and yes...those ears.  (We are feeding him between reps!)

Have fun GSoM webpiners!!

i just found out he's a lefty
and what i liked about his post moves was he also operated on the left post and then moved to the middle for a jumper. i'm a lefty and that's pretty uncomfortable to do so if he can do that comfortable then that means he can operate effectively on both side of the post.

ok..now i find it weird
that on that highlight reel.. he operated mostly on the left side post. him being a lefty, it's more susceptible to getting blocked. hmm.. i hope he can do the same moves on the right side.

7'0" wingspan?
Try 7'3.75" -- only a half-inch shorter than Oden's. He's definitely got the ideal physical attributes, in terms of length, speed, hops, and hands, for a Nellieball 4. Now let's see if he got game to match.

skeptic
I've heard the whole wingspan argument way too many times..wasn't that Byron Houston's upside?  Same was said about Oliver Miller...remember that guy?

Anyways, I saw Brandan Wright at CompUSA in Emeryville yesterday, didn't recognize him because his ears didn't seem as big.

I was waivering between welcoming him to the bay and wishing him good luck or telling him he better man up quick and start contributing cuz the Town ain't got no patience for suckas.  I decided not to say anything at all...I'll save it for the games.

wing span
There are many cases where 'wingspan' is really code for 'not actually tall enough to play the position, but we drafted him anyhow.' And I'd worry if I was being sold 'wingspan' on a guy who was 6-7 but expected to play with guys nearer to 7-0 because of his 'wingspan'.  However, Brandan's a legit 6-10 playing height.  Wingspan in a guy who is tall enough to play the position is an asset he can,and does use.

HIGHLIGHTS
I'd like to believe he has the potential to be a really good player in the NBA, but I don't think the video you provided is a fair assessment of his skills considering that it's from when he was in H.S.  Anyone can look good and look like they're dominating in H.S.

If he can post double-double figures and be a presence inside for the W's I'll be pretty happy!

And sorry to say, but I don't miss J-RICH either.

Good point about the HS play
Truth be told I dug the beats as well so that was a contributing factor. Love the webpin by the way. He is not of this world.

My opinion
This is getting me even more excited to see what Wright can do for the Warriors. He knows he has big shoes to fill, he knows his role for the team and most importantly his looking forward to playing for the Warriors.

His hip is 100% healthy now, so he will be ready for training camp, the Offseason games and ofcause the NBA Season. His been working out around 2 weeks earlier then usual, which is needed because he needs to put on some weight and also be ready for the long 82 game season. So there is no excuse for Wright to not be in shape when the season starts.

Hopefully Wright continues to train hard and lives up to his expectations.

BDub game
Two more months away.  Cool beats.  I am so excited. Wright is definately agile and crafty around the hoop.  I only hope he is alot more explosive.  Flips and layups are cool but usually that stuff gets swatted away in the NBA.  He seemed to get by alot on arm length and not so much on vert.  I would love for him to be a high flier and just dunk on everyone ala Amare.  I don't know if that's his game but I am definately anxious to see more of his game. I love the ET picture.
