Nellie Nellie Nellie

No coach yet? Still? Sheesh. Just give Nellie the money and be done with it. Apparently contract talks are still stalled, but they will resume talks this week.

I know a lot of you have weighed in on the discussion already, but training camp is less than a month away and there's still no coach. Who's going to tell the media how much weight so and so has to lose? Who's going to predict that the underachieving #3 pick is going to have his best year? Who's going to get us excited about next year's team? He provided so many great quotes last year, it's a shame we have to wait so long for more.

The two sides are scheduled to talk in the next few days with hopes of jump-starting a process that is threatening to fracture the franchise's most successful team in more than a decade.

"I have a lot of respect for (Warriors president) Bobby Rowell. Our talks are not over and I'm hopeful we can get it done," said John O'Connor, Nelson's attorney.

Let's let Chris know the pulse of the people, vote whether or not to keep Nellie at his current demands.

I decided to craft a message to Chris Cohan about the situation... after the jump

Star-divide

"Dear Chris,

We (the fans) haven't been on great terms with you since you took over 13 years ago. You even got booed in your home arena during the All-Star festivities many years ago. In fact, prior to Nellie and co pushing the team into the playoffs, many of us were hoping and praying that you'd sell the team (possibly to Larry Ellison). We called you and Robert clowns and one playoff run doesn't change that a whole lot. I am still hoping you sell the team. You don't want to do anything that might make us remember the times in between the Nellie years. If I only had a little bit more money I'd make an offer.

But this isn't about you, it's about doing what's best for the franchise. And that means signing Nellie for what he wants. Yes, there's a certain point that you have to say no, but I don't think a few extra mil per year is going to bankrupt you. It's not like he's asking you to rub his belly for good luck before, during, and after each game. What Nellie did last year was priceless. Hundreds of thousands of people, both Warrior fans and NBA fans, fell in love with the Warriors during the playoff run last year. And Nellie was at the center of it all. Baron got the hype, Nellie was anointed genius status.

So what I'm trying to say is... let me coach the team. Okay, no, but please sign Nellie. Whatever it takes. Imagine what the team would be like without him. You don't have to think too hard, it was only 2 years ago. If you throw in a different coach, we will miss the playoffs again. Let's not start another 13 year drought. Sign Nellie. I don't care that he's holding out of a contract he signed and agreed to. He brought pure bliss to the Bay just a few months ago, so let's keep that going full steam into next season. Sign Nellie.

Sincerely,
Fantasy Junkie"

Agreed
Pay the man!

Nellie's significantly increased the value of this franchise. Cohan's making millions off Nellie's shrewdness and creativity. If it weren't for Nellie- Cohan, Rowell, and probably Mullin would still be searching for a clue. The least Cohan can do is hook up this all-world employee by making that contract incentive money guaranteed. It's just good business practice- you treat your employees and members of your company well and reward them when they've done something amazing.

Cohan- I know you're reading this and I know many folks in the Warriors organization are reading this. Bring back Nellie or else... (You've been warned).

Be afriad...
LOL, I'd be afraid of what Atma would call Cohan and Rowell if they don't sign Nellie. Although it could make for some great entertainment.

just do it

My opinion
Nelson is being selfish, he should coach for the love of the game and watch his team grow, money should be second option.

But I'm pretty sure EVERYONE knows that Nelson was the reason that the Warriors made the playoffs last season..

They should just ask him how much he wants, AND THEN GIVE IT TO HIM!

Are you serious?
Using your logic Cohan should own the Warriors for the love of the game and watch his team grow and prosper under Nellie and pay the master architect whatever he wants, money should be second.

Sorry, but if Nellie leaves the Warriors are seriously doomed and it's ALL Cohan's fault. Say hello to another 13 year drought because without Nellie to save him, we're stuck with the completely incompetent Chris "I'll sue you" Cohan.

It's ridiculous that this isn't resolved yet.

Has no problem throwing 40 million at Dunleavy and spending millions to buy out Foyle but wont pony up 5 for nellie? Come on! Nellie is a businessman and has leverage. Is he being selfish? Yes.

With the poor spending the team has done of the years I will be very disappointed if "only" 5 million dollars is the difference between a hall of fame coach and Keith Smart.

What's missing here?
I don't even know why this is still an issue...  Why doesn't he just pay Nellie and be done with.  Either there's some other info that we all don't know about or they're just trying to strong arm Nellie.

bad to worse
who knows what is going on in any of their heads but the counter offer of less overall guaranteed money though on a shorter contract (if I read that right) seems like a slap in the face...

Maybe it's as simple as respect, for the results he got last year? With our roster he should be paid in the top quarter - half of his peers...

Nelson might be asking himself what more he can accomplish with this roster, even with the TPE to play with could anyone expect GS to be in the WC Finals next season?

The longer this drags on the greater chance it has a chance of getting much much worse...
