OPEN THREAD - GAME #40: Warriors @ Pacers

2198284560_2453ea5c20

Warriors (W-L): 23-16

Pacers (W-L): 17-22

Time: 4:00PM PST tip off

TV FSN Bay Area

Vegas Odds Pacers by 1.5 (source: yahoo.com)

Hey... I know these guys! Tonight the Warriors look to take 4 in a row and they head out to the land that corn built and take on the Indiana Pacers (for the second time in 4 days.)

In retrospect, it may have been foolish to aggressively boo Dunleavy (and to some extent Murphy) in the Arena when we all knew that in a mere matter of days we would be facing the Pacers in their own house. I mean, there's a pretty good chance that the Pacers fans will attempt to exact their revenge by excessively booing Jax and TMNT tonight, right?

What have we done? Have we created a hostile environment for our boys to enter tonight? Was it all worth it?!

Heh. You bet your ass it was. Everybody JUMP!

Star-divide

The question remains, which Warriors team is going to show up in Indiana tonight? You can believe that we aren't going to make any assumptions of a blowout tonight. Not after the win that we barely scraped from Indy last Sunday.

The truth is we are still in the market for consistency. While Warriors fans can celebrate our winning record, few can make the leap to call us one of the NBA elite. Frankly, an elite team would be able to blowout of the Indianas and Minnesotas of the league. The Warriors haven't been able to accomplish this yet.

Please don't read me wrong, I'm has happy as anyone that we are angling to further a win streak tonight; I just don't want to see this ride come to an end anytime soon.

Which brings us to tonight.

In our last meeting, O'Neal, Granger and *ahem* a certain ex-Warrior took our D for a ride and made the critical scores that lead to such a close game. In the meanwhile, the Dubs hosted one of their worst shooting nights of the season. (both from beyond and the charity stripe) Tonight, I'd like to see improvement in both categories, however I'll settle for improvement in just one. I think it really says something for what we are capable of against this team if we were able to sneak a win despite so much going wrong for us.

While a win is a win, the hope is that tonight we can turn our current momentum into a Pacers beat down. This is truly one of those games that should be in our rearview mirror from tip-off onwards.

Let's take `em down Dubs!!!

Predictions:

- Tinsley commits a flagrant foul on Monta. Monta responds by dropping 29 points. Oh wait...
- Baron gets 10+ dimes and 20+ points.
- Jax and TMNT get boo'ed in the start of the game. Dunleavy and Murphy get boo'ed at the end of the game.
- Did someone say Funleavy Foto Fun?!!
- Warriors by 11. (Take that Vegas!)

right on.
excellent and valid predictions, i think. part of me also thinks that the booing that SJax shall receive will only make him play better.

Confident on the Road (first time in a long time)
I'm confident that the Warriors will take care of business.  That is the biggest improvement I see in this team.  They understand what they need to do to win the games they should.  No more backing off after their lead is lost or a close game threatens to get away from them.  The Warriors play hard and claw their way back in it (well except for the Portland game).

I think the FTs will be way better than Sunday and that SJax has come out of his funk.  That will be the difference.

Nothing better than "The City".

the animosity towards Dunleavy...
...was created in part by the ineptitude of the Warriors front office. Drafting the guy at #3 was a mistake, but not the biggest one. The colossal blunder, the one I thought would sink our franchise for years, was signing him to an Albatross extension AFTER YOU ALREADY KNOW HE SUCKS! I am thankful that Larry Bird was so gracious in taking not one but two "untradeable" contracts off our hands and actually giving us players in return that play on both sides of the ball...maybe he was just returning the favor for the two titles that the GSW front office gift-wrapped for his C's in the 80's...

Your Vegas Odds are wrong
On Yahoo it lists Indiana as the favorites by 1.5 instead of the Warriors.  This game worries me.  On the backend of a back to back, I can see the team mailing this one in.  I hope I'm wrong though.  I want to see Dubs come out with energy and get a good start.

he said "we had a sad situation here" and "that he didnt do anything to deserve the boos".  also "it tells you (media) what kind of people (warrior fans) they are".

everyone here says to get over it...  i will when his dumbass keeps it shut about the bay!  he needs to get over it!

Can someone tell me
why Pietrus gets 8 minutes, more than Watson and Azubuike combined?

I know we're throwing him out there to market him for a trade, but really, he is utter trash. No one single handedly keeps opponents in the game like he does

1/4 with 2 fouls, 1 board, 1 block in 8 minutes, both fouls leading to FT's.

embarrassing loss
Pacers were practically begging for a blow out loss in the 1st quarter

We didn't deserve the win
After being up ONLY 11 after the great defensive performance we put on.

well atleast this wasnt at home
and we did play back to back lol
so we have some excuses

by 8monta on Jan 16, 2008 6:39 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

That was a disapointing loss
What happened to start that 4th quarter?  Did the Warriors just think Indiana would give up?  It seemed like it.  I mean, A 14 POINT LEAD!!! down in a 4 minutes.  Then we can't come back after being down for the first time in the GAME.  That was dissapointing...

the worst
part is we lost to Pacers like the Pacers lost to us. They were on the end of a back to back when they played us and they led throughout the whole game too  on monday. Stupid Rush and his 3s.

by saintdee on Jan 16, 2008 6:41 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

worst loss of the season
blowing a 17-point lead to a Pacers team without two of its starters... Ridiculous!!

it's
hard to win the game when your opponents have second and third chance points allmost every possesion.Well one thing is definetly true small ball will never win a championship so the warriors are the first team this season which is robbed of chance to win it all!!! Although the Nelson is our saviour he's also our gravedigger.

by buky on Jan 16, 2008 6:46 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

props to pacers
for playing great in the 4th quarter. They scored 46 points in the 4th.  Even though Dubs got 12 steals in the 1st, they only came out of it with 29 points and an 11 point lead.  We should have been leading by atleast 20.  IMO that was the difference, not converting those points off of turnovers.

the only way we salvage this road trip
is if we win the remaining two games. The Bulls just blew out the Heat tonight, so they finally have some confidence, and the Bucks could be dangerous since they are going to be well rested. We need the Bulls game.

It's one of the reasons
I didn't get all excited about this "string" of below .500 teams the Warriors have been set to play.  Since when did playing a sub-.500 team make winning come any easier for the Warriors?

I couldn't watch (I'm at work) so I was limited to Yahoo Sports game board.  Looking at the stats makes me think if we would have just made our FREE THROWS it could have made the difference between a win and a loss.  Pacers made 36 of 38 free throws.  Not too shabby (compared to the Warriors' 28 of 37).

But then another part of me thinks it's probably the bad karma from all the Dunleavy booing on Sunday coming back to bite us in the a$$.  Was pretty tasteless in my view, but I also realize I'm in a small minority with that opinion.

about the FT
IIRC, we were shooting 24 of 26 at one point of the game. And then 4 of 11 down the stretch, mentally worn out, I'd say.

one word
Defense...

What kind of team gives up 46 points in a quarter?  I don't care how tired you are from playing the day before, that's just inexcusable.

I officially un-Believe.

Inevitable
A trade is inevitable.

The Warriors want to win now.

Don't be surprised to see a major roster shakeup.

Nobody is untouchable, trade-wise, except for Baron and Andris.

by TotallyWasted on Jan 16, 2008 7:41 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

ok
First thing, no one knows what Mullin is doing unless you somehow talked to Mullin himself.

Of course the warriors want to win now, but they are poorly constructed right now and have players that are playing terrible.

How can they have a major roster shakeup if they don't trade Baron or Andris?

What team would want Jackson, MP, Barnes, or POB?

The only guys worth mentioning are Harrington, Monta, and Azuibuke, but they will not bring in a superstar that would constitute a "major roster shakeup"

Warriors, Stupidest franchise in the league.

STOP playing MP
He is decreasing his trade value every foul and step out of bounds.

by highflya on Jan 16, 2008 8:04 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

What kind of trade value does Pietrus have now?
I mean other teams must have seen him play.  I'd be surprised if we get anyone good in return for trading him.  For every good play he makes, he makes two bonehead plays right after.  If he isn't hitting that 3 in the corner he's always camping in, he's pretty much not giving us much else.

Ahh
Just a loss yall, its all good.  Consider it payback from Sunday.  46 points in a quarter is redonkulous, so I'm not shocked we lost because of that 4th quarter showing.  I'm pissed about the 0.5 game lead over the almost Western Conference Champions of a year ago in Utah.  Its funny how tight the West is.  Remember, there is only 1 champ per year, so in theory, everyone else is a loser-maybe that will help the hung heads...Go Dubs!

by gabezgsw on Jan 16, 2008 8:17 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

We just gotta calm down
We shouldn't get so upset over this loss.  It was a back to back on the road.  Sure they should have won but these games happen even to the best of them.  I was suprised they were even in the game considering what the usually look like on back to backs.
Playoffs!!??

by PAWarrior on Jan 16, 2008 8:34 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

technically,
prior to this game they were 5-4 on back to backs this year; 5-3 w/ SJax.

W/ the west as tight as it is (the Jazz are likely making it), this trip along w/ the light February is crucial considering how insane the March to early April schedule is:

20 games in 35 days w/ 13 road games and 7 back to backs, 13 games w/ teams currently in the playoffs. plus the rockets and clippers, who'll probably have brand back by then.

now that portland has emerged, i actually don't think the dubs are going to make the playoffs. makes it a lot easier to take, though i won't go as far as to say i take it well.

they'll have a chance if baron & jack remain healthy or if roy, camby, or dwill sustain a major injury or if something unforeseen happens (a trade or if either belinelli, wright, or pob actually contribute to wins).

by the evil monkey on Jan 16, 2008 10:08 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

we are usually
good on back to backs though. It takes the first game to get us serious. And then the back end for us to play our potential.
