Around SBN: BTB's Final Preseason NCAA Hoops Bracket

OPEN THREAD - GAME #41: Warriors @ Bulls

Warriors (W-L): 23-17
Bulls (W-L):  15-22
Time: 6:30pm PST
TV: ESPN
Radio: KNBR 1050

Honestly ... am I the only one who finds this guy completely annoying?

The 2007 - 2008 season has given us some new Cinderella teams vying for playoff spots. However, with every surprise team comes a disappointing disaster of a season for others. The Miami Heat and the Chicago Bulls are the first that come to mind. To clarify, I'm classifying these teams as "disasters" only because they were supposed to be championship caliber contenders (say that three times real fast) only to find themselves out of the playoff picture and far far down the lottery well.

Star-divide

Tonight we get to feast on one of these teams. The only problem is that we were supposed to beat an average team 2 nights ago when we gave up 83 points (slight exaggeration) in the 4th quarter to the Indiana Pacers. It's being debated as one of the worst losses in recent GSW history. I'm not going to go into the relevance of that game, but lets just leave my tail between my legs (congrats indycornrows).

Another problem is that we've lost six in a row at the United Center in Chicago (I blame the cold weather). To top it all off, they have some pretty decent players who have the ability to light it up especially with our sometimes lockdown, sometimes porous defense. Ben Gordon, Luol Deng, and Andres Nocioni have consistently scorched the Warriors year after year so it will be interesting to see how Nellie wants to control this.

But here's what's important folks ... we're coming off an UGLY loss. I mean Joakim Noah ugly ... and we shall not mention that game anymore. We are on national TV tonight playing on ESPN for the entire country to see. We've been complaining for so long that the Warriors get no love from the national media, so here's our chance tonight. I say we have to come out and spank the Bulls like no other. This game is extremely important for our pride and our respect. GO WARRIORS!

Predictions:

  •  Warriors by 14.
  •  Barnes and Bench outscore Bulls starting unit.
  •  Ellis and Baron combine for 43.
  •  Big Ben scores a season high 4 points.
  •  Deng gets 25 and 9.
  •  Hinrich has one less assist than Baron

yeah we're gonna lose
They have the guns to run w/us, and they're on their home floor.  Stephen Jackson is out, which likely means more Pietrus on the floor.  ::shudder::

At least it's on national TV and in HD for us outta towners.

Seriously I am not really annoyed with anyone in the NBA. Except for Joakim Noah.

Heh, I love Noah!
And I have NO idea what to expect tonight, lol, but we need a win BAD after the Pacers debacle.

I'll go ahead and call it a modest (no calling blowouts!) 20 point win. Jax mostly sits with the bad toe and Buke and Barnes have big nights

by buhdydub on Jan 18, 2008 2:26 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

just once
I'd like us to keep Joe Smith under wraps. He always his open j's and gets garbage buckets against us, it's pretty annoying.

Anyways, matchups are easy:

Jack guards Deng
Baron on Gordon
Ellis on Hinrich

Hinrich can't shoot for the life of him, Ellis is the crappy team defender, works for us.

Deng is primarily a jumpshooter, but moves without the ball in their offense to get open shots. The good part is we don't need gimpy Jack trying to keep up with him off the dribble,t he bad part is he has to chase him around screens. Fortunately Deng is not superfast and even Barnes should be able to keep up with him if he's not committing stupid fouls

Baron on Gordon, I could live with that. Neither Hinrich nor Gordon can guard Baron in the post, so they're in for a beating tonight down low.

Wallace is old and slow and unmotivated, Harrington and Biedrins should have their way inside if we're bright enough to pound it in there.

If Azubuike is guarded by Gordon or Duhon, we should immediately abuse that matchup as well.

Overall, the Bulls lack size or any playmaker, so if we're paying attention, I figure we'll have our way with them. Of course, we dont always pay attention, so yeah...

I missed the post saying that Jack is playing tonight.  Hopefully the foot injury will keep him from all those horrible isolations he's been loving so much lately.

The Bulls Aren't the Same
as they were last year.  They're around .500 since Skiles is gone, but they look lost and don't play well as a team anymore.  If the Dubs can play a solid four quarters (or at least a decent fourth quarter) they should come away with an easy win.

then we will fight in the shade.

by Swamp Thing on Jan 18, 2008 2:35 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

I KNEW...
that the Heat were going to suck it big time this year.  I would've bet any of you lots of money that they wouldn't make the playoffs even in the LEastern conference before the season started.

Of course, the Bulls terrible play has come as a big surprise.

There's no way Hinrich comes even close to the number of assists that Baron gets, and Deng will not get anywhere near 25 and 9.  Just my thoughts...

Hinrich's out tonight

KNBR 680?
Guys - it's really on 680, not 1050?

Not that it's relevant to me tonight, but for whatever reason my car radio doesn't get 1050. 680? Perfect. 1050? Just some hissing with some hints of Spanish.

Be a drinsch!

by Dactyllic on Jan 18, 2008 5:12 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

Whoops
Should have said 1050. Looks like it's only 1050 for tonight. 680 is most likely going to be the Razor and Mr. T, then some D. Bruce.

i have a feeling
the bulls are gonna come out of their slump, at least for tonight, against the warriors shoddy excuse for defense. hinrich will probably shoot something along the lines of 7-12. tyrus thomas, if given the chance, will also go off on us. hopefully we have the offensive firepower to overcome it

by AJC3317 on Jan 18, 2008 5:31 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

I have a feeling...
...that Baron is just gonna pull a Kobe, and take the game over, right from the beginning tipoff. he's NOT gonna allow ANYTHING remotely close to what happened on wed. night

the way i see it, we could (should) have only 8-13 losses this season. if it wasnt for the constant shooting ourselves in the foot ordeal, we'd be sitting close to the top in the west.

Noah. Argh.
Being that I'm a Tennessee Vol fan, I got to watch Noah a lot. And yes he's annoying. It was an amazing moment when C.J. knocked his teeth out.

Now, even though I disliked him because he was a Gator...I really don't have a problem now with Corey Brewer...but Noah? I can't stand him at all.

I GET TO WATCH THIS GAME!! Ahh!!!

Oh My God
Monta Ellis could be so much more effective if he'd just learn to PASS and not drive the ball 100% of the time. There's no shame in kicking out to the open man, rather than running into a guy for a cheap foul. He's just like the Baron Davis of 2005-2006.

NOOO
You beat the zone by attacking its weak points, usually the middle and sending cutters.

But for some reason, Warriors are lethargic to move around and would rather watch the play than being in it. Thus the preference to shooting 3's, the lazy player's way out.

Did you guys see Artest kiss the Detroit crowd? He has big balls for that one. Did BigBen come back at all in the second half? Hypothetically speaking, does anyone believe Watson could've played at all during this game or would he have been too much of a risk?

Points After
I love that Barnes was doing what he was supposed to be doing(the dirty work inside)and not settleling for tha perimiter game,BD N Ellis Co Warrior Wonders,Harrington is worrying me a little his game has been very off especially from tha 3 line,Jackson is terrible for 3 1/2 quarters then turns into Reggie miller the last 5 minutes I think Nelson should forbid Jax to shoot the first 43 minutes the chuck away freely,Ref sukk big time but according to Blog a Bull they were given all the calls to the Dubz ???OKKK???                                                Oh yeah and no Pietrus in tha second half big plus.

could be worse...
The only thing more annoying to me than Noah's antics was watching Ben Wallace sitting on the bench laughing as they lost the game, not bothered at all by the fact that he couldn't even get in the game in the second half.

It must feel pretty good to collect that kind of paycheck to sit on your ass.

Anybody remember when Big Ben used to play hard and care about winning??

Monta's Charge Call was pretty bad
What's a guy supposed to do after he passes the ball in midair?  We, as human beings, have yet to learn how to stop ourselves in midair and avoid contact.

Even the great Air Jordan never did that.

by coach41 on Jan 18, 2008 11:54 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

agreed
the nocioni play the possesion right before the monta charge was an easier one to accept.

while that was just a call that an official might not have seen, the monta play was so ridic. he had taken 2 steps before nocioni even began to "hop" in front.

i blame monta tho.. i mean he hung in the air so long it gave the defender a chance ;) jk obv

imo
refs were equally bad to both sides. I could understand how Bull fans could feel they were being shafted all the time though - Nocioni was flailing his arms every 3 seconds on both sides of the ball, as if he was being severely bullied. Might have been worse than Ginobli.

Monta and Harrington both took a couple of bad charge calls, so that counters Monta's charge and the Nocioni out of bounds play.

nocioni
is probably one of the most annoying players in the nba. he flops and screams whenever someone touches him (promptly him to fall over, off. and def. end). ugh, so sickening. i'm tired of these types of players (i don't feel like naming them all)

all n all, glad the dubs survived. (they always play well on national television)
