OPEN THREAD: Warriors @ Mavs - Do You Believe?
Warriors (W-L): 19-13
Mavs (W-L): 20-11
Time: 5:30PM PST tip off
TV FSN Bay Area
Vegas Odds Mavs by 5.5 (source: yahoo.com)
Well look at this! What better way to start a brand spanking New Year than by re-enacting the greatest triumph of our previous year?
Fate, it would seem, agrees. Why else would our first game of 2008 be against none other than the mighty Dallas Mavericks?
Make the jump for more!

Make no mistake here, there is a rivalry a-brewin' between these two teams and their fans. (All in good fun of course!) Though we've proven that we can dispatch of this elite Western Conference superpower, it that doesn't mean that the Mavs OR their fans like it.
As we step into the Mavs' house tonight for the first time since (say it with me now) THE GREATEST UPSET IN NBA HISTORY, it's a pretty safe bet that the home crowd is going to be a giant factor. They're going to loud. They're going to be hostile.
And in the end, they're going be disappointed.
This isn't like the beginning of the year when the Mavs caught the Warriors in the middle of a streak of losses with Jackson riding the pine. (And by "pine", I mean sitting on his couch at home because he wasn't even allowed in the Arena.)
Our boys are in full swing now. I expect them to come out fighting because regardless of our past with the Mavs, this one is not going to come easy.
Predictions:
- Baron lights up the Mavs with 25+ points and 10+ dimes
- Dirk stays under 15 points.
- J-Rich runs through the tunnel onto the floor in a Warrior uniform and hits a last second spinning 3 for the win.
- Cuban makes a sulky face. A fan behind him flaunts his We Believe shirt.
- Warriors by 5.

Dallas
1. Paul Westphal
Watching a few of their games, they seem to have considerably more movement on offense than before. They brought him in to boost the playbook, and it seem he's had an effect. The Mavs staple used to be a pretty predictable pick and roll, isolate Dirk or someone on the elbow and go from there. Now, they have more off-ball movement and shots for...
2. Josh Howard
He's an athletic wing player that's getting more of a role in the offense. Last year everyone was content to watch Dirk flail miserably; now, I expect them to go to Howard more. It's considerably harder to stop Howard than Dirk, especially if Jack is occupied guarding the 7 foot German. Conceivably we could go small and put Barnes/Pietrus/Buike or even Baron on Howard.
3. Brandon Bass
And here's probably the biggest problem: a 6'9, active, athletic, rebounding, shotblocking big man that also hits a midrange J. That's the anti-Warriors right there. Before we could swarm Dirk because we didn't have to respect Damp or Diop or George. Now they put Bass on the floor, and that's one less guy we can double off of. Defensively, he's also going to be a disruptive force. Damn the Hornets.
4. Terry off the bench
Now they don't play Terry and Harris at the same time as much, so that's one less size mismatch. Eddie Jones and Stack aren't exactly shutdown guys, but they're not the tiny shrimps we normally post up.
Plus we're on the road.
NOTE: Reposted from murqitua's "Facing the Mavs" diary.
Also remember...Brandan Bass dropped 10/12/2 on us last time we played in 32 minutes. Not too shabby for a minimum salary signing.
A Golden state of mind Indeed.

Wow
On the other hand, Al Harrington had a tremendous game once again. I don't know what it is, but lately he seems to be going off. Kinda like a constant cycle.
Monta Ellis has to think a bit more. Every single time I saw him get the ball, he just immediately drove. No thinking whether it was the right thing to do. Just drove....sigh.
And honestly, where's the D? Big D was pick n' rolling us allll night looooong.
Just a terrible game, I hated to see Dallas win....I just hope OU wins in the Fiesta Bowl today, and the Warriors beat the Traitors on Friday....Oh wait, West Virginia Touchdown, nevermind....

As for my enjoyment, I'm having a lot of fun being a fan of the Warriors. I was at last night's game and even though my team lost, I had a great time out. From what I observed, though, "fun" for Mavs fans is shouting obscenities at Warriors fans and wanting to rub the win in the Warriors' faces. In other words, vengeance. However, if that is the limit of your fun, then you're missing out. Fun should involve the enjoyment of the game, the pleasure of victory, and a time spent with people you care about. If fun is merely about revenge, then I would argue that it's not about fun at all.
Here are some quotes:
"Revenge is always the weak pleasure of a little and narrow mind." - Juvenal
"Revenge, at first though sweet, Bitter ere long back on itself recoils." - John Milton
"Those who plot the destruction of others often perish in the attempt." - Thomas Moore
"A man that studieth revenge keeps his own wounds green, which otherwise would heal and do well." - Francis Bacon
"Revenge has no more quenching effect on emotions than salt water has on thirst." - Walter Weckler
"Hatred is the coward's revenge for being intimidated." - George Bernard Shaw
Since we're dwelling in the past, why don't we talk about championships won. The Warriors have two (three if you count their BAA championship). How many do the Mavericks have?

"WHAAAAAH! My MAVS got shafted! Effin fluke @ss warriors! Just watch! I'll get my revenge next year, in a meaningless regular season game, when the mavs win by 20+ and I have absolutely nothing to do with the final outcome! Whahhhh!
Best duo since...
