CJ Watson Extended for Rest of Season: KBLX Booming in Ya Speakers!

The Warriors have officially inked CJ Watson for the rest of the season [Warriors.com]. Congrats to CJ! Lucky #100. Hit Read More for the rest.

Signed, Sealed, and Delivered!

Star-divide

CJ isn't that pass-first PG that the Warriors would probably like to have backing up Baron Davis, but Nellie seems to trust him. Nellie actually plays KBLX (not just on the FM dial!) unlike Patrick O'Bryant, Brandan Wright, Marco Belinelli, and Kosta Perovic, which is key. He also seems to enjoy going uber-small with BD, Monta Ellis, and CJ for significant portions of the game for some unknown reason. Hey, in Nellie we trust.

Watson hasn't done anything really spectacular or eye-popping in his 10 games thus far with the Dubs (including 2 DNP's), but hanging onto him for the rest of the season seems well worth the gamble. It's a low risk, potentially decent reward type of move. Here's his game log thus far [Yahoo! Sports]:

More on 102.9:

Did the Warriors make the right move holding onto CJ? Think this means Gary Payton to the Dubs is over?

Nice!
The signing of CJ looks to be a good move by the Warriors. I'm also extremely excited for Chris Webber! Let's Go W's!

Good News
Who leaves now for C Webb's spot?
Nothing better than "The City".

this is great news
T hud is almost surely gone.  I know the writer of this article doesn't agree with me, but i think CJ is a pretty good pass first point guard, he's definitely no Troy hudson (shoot every time)

He hasn't been spectacular, but he has been so solid and has had great stretches of minutes.  normally back up points aren't going to be spectacular nor do we need them to be.  I really like his quickness, and he has nice hands and pretty good length on defense.  He is a very good shooter and freethrow shooter.  he is a perfect fit with this team in my opinion.

Darn it
I'm tempted to leave my sign for Matt Barnes at home and just make one for Watson. Anyway, I really like this move! Go Dubz!

Definitely a good move
Why take an old washed up PG when you can get a young one with potential that we already know will shoot well and won't be careless with the ball?  CJ>GP in this case.

AWW YEAH
THIS GUY IS A SOLID BACK UP PG FOR BOOM. scores when he needs to score he does what he needs to do off the bench and his doing a good job off it. in the future i'd lik to c the d-league dynamic duo come off the bench to rest baron and monta. they both can go off from their numbers in the d-league hope we c it in the future

I'm happy for CJ
Hard work pays off. First buke, now CJ.

We're going to win with a D-League bench.

solid signing
CJ has done nothing but good here and he deserves the contract.

But something in me still believes that when (if) we make the postseason, I'm going to wish we had signed Gary Payton.  I can't imagine Nelson trusting CJ enough to give him those crunch time minutes in the playoffs, but he would play Gary Payton.

Azubuike got only a few minutes of PT in the playoffs last year even when Monta disappeared and was awful.  Sure he was 3rd on the depth chart for SG, but he never even really got a chance to play.

CJ is definitely going to give Baron some much needed rest during the regular season.  But I'm afraid that, come the postseason, Baron's gonna go back to playing 40+ minutes every game and get worn down again.

ideally
We move Pietrus and POB together in a 2-for-1 deal which frees up another roster spot.  Then we can go out and sign Gary Payton too.

Gary Payton could be paired on the court with Baron, Monta, and CJ too because he's 6'4".  He may even better suited to guarding second-string shooting guards instead of those quick little point guards.

Maybe I'm just spinning my wheels here.. but I think our backcourt is still lacking something.  And that something is big-game, crunch time veteran composure (other than Baron Davis).

one more thought
I'm not opposed to a Pietrus/POB for some sort of backup PF like Villanueva.  That would make our team DEEP:

PG Baron / Watson / Payton
SG Ellis / Buke / Belinelli
SF SJax / Barnes
PF Harrington / *PF / Wright / Croshere
C Biedrins / Webber / Perovic

That's one deep squad, with a good mix of youth and playoff experience.  We'd have alot of players Nelson could give minutes too, lots of mismatch possibilities, and, most importantly, lots of opportunities for Baron and SJax to rest with the Dubs still having veterans on the court.  Our style of play just NEEDS a deep team like this.

That depth chart
actually looks very decent.  You have our core starters that can run and gun, back ups that can do the same, and veterans that can play a half court game should it be necessary.  Plus, lets not forget the value of veterans like Webber and Payton for our younger players.
Keep Monta Movement.

doubtful
hey..explain me what CJ has done to deserve that confidence and that contract and above all that minutrs more than Belinelli..excuse my patriotism..

Beli and CJ
CJ has hit 45% of his shots (which is almost exactly the league average) and 41% of his 3's such that he's well above average in points per FG attempt.  He has twice as many assists as turnovers.   He has shown an ability to get to the line relative to how often he shoots and he hits his shots there.

Belinelli has shot 30% from the floor and 29% from behind the arc.  He's got more turnovers than assists (and fewer assists than Watson, despite more minutes played). He has shown no ability to get to the line, so what he shoots from the line is more or less completely and totally irrelevant.
