OPEN THREAD: Game #46 - Warriors @ Rockets

Warriors (W-L): 27-18
Rockets (W-L): 24-20
TV: FSN Bay Area HD
Radio: KNBR 1050
Time: 5:30 pm

We interrupt your irregularly scheduled Chris Webber to the Warriors hype to bring you our scheduled coverage of tonight's matchup between the Houston Rockets and Golden State Warriors.

But before you make the jump if you're looking for some more CWebb-ness here you go:

Star-divide

My man Fantasy Junkie predicted a big W for the Warriors tonight in this week's installment of Counting W's for The W Column on FSN Bay Area:

The Warriors have OWNED the Rockets the past few games they've played. Ever since Nellie went small towards the end of last season, the Rockets just haven't had an answer. Yao Ming is too slow to guard Al Harrington on the perimeter and the Rocket guards just can't keep up with Baron and Monta. There's something about facing Houston that seems to excite this team. Perhaps it's the David vs Goliath (or Yao) feeling. Either way, the Rockets haven't figured out how to beat the Warriors. In fact, they haven't figured out how to not get blown out by the Warriors. This game should be no different.

I'd have to agree with FJ on this one. You know the drill. The Warriors are Speedy Gonzalez fast. The Rockets are Eeyore slow. Run, run, and RUN! And then run some more!

This should be Houston's new mascot.

Warriors vs Rockets the past 2 seasons:

Since everyone seems to enjoy prediction time, I'll kick this set into overdrive for you. Make sure to drop yours in the comments as well. That way I'm not the only one that looks silly around 8:30pm tonight.

Predictions

  • Warriors by 10.
  • Rockets by -10.
  • Monta Ellis gets at least 10 points off the fast break.
  • Warrior killer Luther Head makes a guest appearance and drops 20+.
  • Baron Davis messes around and gets a triple double.
  • If Yao Ming, Tracy McGrady, and Bonzi Wells do end up playing they don't give former Warrior head coach Rick Adelman all that much.
  • Al Harrington drops 20 points with 4+ treys.
  • Patrick O'Bryant doesn't play any minutes tonight.
  • Marco Belinelli doesn't play any minutes tonight.
  • Brandan Wright doesn't play any minutes tonight.
  • Kosta Perovic doesn't play any minutes tonight.
  • Chris Webber is watching this game.

I just had to say that I am studying vocab for the GRE right now and I know like 1/10 words just from Jim Barnett.

Al Harrington faces the arduous task of guarding 7-5 Yao Ming tonight...

I have to say
I know this board is pretty anti-Pietrus and he has racked up the fouls today but most of them were necessary fouls on Yao with deep position, in order not to let him get in any kind of rhythm.

Oh and the Warriors are playing atrociously.

by belilaugh on Jan 29, 2008 6:17 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

PIETRUS
sucks.  till this day, i still wonder why nellie will not put azubuike over pietrus. its horrendous.

by GSwarrior on Jan 29, 2008 6:18 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Definitely
Keep in mind I said this when Pietrus only had two fouls, and then right on cue he lays a giant egg.

like Pietrus has 6 fouls already.

i hate him! cant he just fly back to france and never wear a warrior jersey again? his fouls freakin kill our damn tempo so much. and he just looks like an ass when he clearly fouls.

by GSwarrior on Jan 29, 2008 6:21 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Monta
he needs to have an idea of what he is gonna do before he elevates, most of his turnovers come from rushing elevation

by belli nellie on Jan 29, 2008 6:21 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

this officiating is crap!!
Ellis gets shoved in the air on his way to rim and it's a turnover. Bonzi falls on Pietrus as he's posting him up and it's a foul on P. WTF!?

I hate blaming the refs
but if your going to call a foul in crunch time when the Warriors have worked so hard, AT LEAST call it when Yao has the ball!

by belilaugh on Jan 29, 2008 7:59 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

gotta make free throws
this game is going bye bye

by AJC3317 on Jan 29, 2008 8:00 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

cost us a couple spots.

The Warriors played a part in it too
Sucking big time in the first quarter

WTF
ok tomorrow the odds are against the dubs up in New Orleans...they needed this win...

by RubberDubDubs on Jan 29, 2008 8:04 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

Won every quarter except for 1st
If they didn't come out and play like crap in the 1st this would have been a different outcome.

by nautica on Jan 29, 2008 8:05 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

umm...
we nearly always play like crap in the first quarter..no surprise there

by saintdee on Jan 29, 2008 8:08 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

I don't knwo why these type of games are such
heartbreakers.  I officially hate Yao.  I will never be a Rockets fan when Yao is there.  Ugly game, boring to watch.

really needed to
find a way to win this one. Tomorrow is going to be tough.

by PhilSmith on Jan 29, 2008 8:09 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

hating yao?
i hate luthor head more than anyone on the rockets.

if and when the hornets blow us out in the 1st quarter tomorrow. i say nellie should just let the bench play the rest of the game.

man
the warriors won the last 3 quarters but that first quarter was just killer

by jrich23 on Jan 29, 2008 8:10 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

With this loss
Warriors now drop to 9th place in west.  Should have played with more a sense of urgency in the 1st quarter.

by nautica on Jan 29, 2008 8:12 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

Why do they bail Yao out with those cheap calls
He is 7'6" for freakin god's sake.  Harrington, Biedrins, off the ball fouls?

Guaranteed Yao fouled Monta harder than those every time Monta was in the lane.

by belli nellie on Jan 29, 2008 8:12 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

ehh
the warriors didnt deserve to win this game. if they play like crap practically in a whole half, we can basically count this one as a big L. most of the time, we usually pull something out of our asses but today we just didnt. props to the rockets without mcgrady. i just hope we can bounce back for tomorrow(mostly not) but if we beat the red hot hornets, ill be happy with a 1-1 back to back road trip.

by GSwarrior on Jan 29, 2008 8:13 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

We need the win
tomorrow at New Orleans, just to boost up the morale.

by BoomD on Jan 29, 2008 8:28 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

they be
sucking it up again.

by gby822 on Jan 29, 2008 8:29 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

Needed this win to salvage the road trip
0-2 here we come! There is no way we can beat NO tomorrow.

This wasn't a big surprise, since we've been playing  so poor at home against bad teams.

So when was the last time we actually shot well in a game?

barnes was a receiver in what league?
How does he drop those point blank passes in the paint???

by ViveAirFrance on Jan 29, 2008 8:50 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

don't blame barnes
he went 5-9 from the field with 13 points and 4 rodmans...had a solid outing

by jam3rz on Jan 29, 2008 11:35 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

need
to take out my frustrations on someone.  if i recall correctly, we were down by 1 point, cap'n jax penetrated the lane and forcefed barnes who was 2 feet from the bucket.

true his stats were better than others, but that was a turning point.  Rockets came back down on the following sequence, Yao gets the foul call..we're down by 3 and lose touch from there.

by ViveAirFrance on Jan 30, 2008 9:13 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

maybe don
should have gotten himself ejected

by saintdee on Jan 29, 2008 9:59 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

Maybe they shouldn't
have played so crappy the first quarter
