OPEN THREAD: Game 48 - Warriors vs Bobcats - GSoM Night 3!

Warriors (W-L): 28-19

Bobcats (W-L): 18-28

Time: 7:30pm PST

TV:FSN Bay Area

Radio: KNBR 680

GSoM Night 3 has finally come. There are still some tickets you can order through Chris Murphy, but seats are seriously dwindling. And don't forget about GSoM Night 4. For those of you going, we're gonna have a great time. I'm really looking forward to the game for many reasons:

  • 520+ members of the community are coming
  • Another free t-shirt designed by Tony.psd himself - pick these up in section 212
  • A chance to win some Warriors memorabilia, tickets, etc - look for your name on the JumoboTron at halftime to see if you've won
  • Last but not least, JRich returns to the Bay

Remember to bring your t-shirt coupon to redeem your free t-shirt!

The GSoM crew will try to get to the table to hand out some of the shirts. Hope to see you all there!

Now, the preview...Make the jump like JRich on a monster putback

Star-divide

JRich last year

JRich this year

I'll be honest, the biggest reason I want to go to this game is to see JRich return and give him an ovation. To say "thank you" for the many years he made me proud to be a Warrior fan. When he could have quit, he worked harder. When he could have played selfishly, he always put the team ahead of individual goals. When the Warriors failed for another year, he apologized to us. I respect him for that and to that I tip my hat.

But we move on. The JRich era is over and while there were great memories, there were some painful ones as well. I'm not going to wish that he was back because that would be a waste of time. He hasn't played as well as Charlotte would have hoped when they traded for him nor has he given them the extra push to make the playoffs in the East.

In fact, Charlotte is a bad team (which probably means they'll give the Warriors trouble). But being a bad team in the East doesn't mean that you can't make the playoffs! At 18-28, they're only 1.5 games out of 8th place! Yesss! 9 of the 15 teams in the East are below .500. Yikes. Heck even the Knicks still have a shot at making the playoffs. Anyways, Charlotte has some other talented pieces. Gerald Wallace is an athletic freak and causes all kinds of problems on defense with the steals and blocks he collects. Emeka Okafor is averaging a double double and shoots a great percentage from the field, but shoots that same percentage from the line. Hack an Emeka? Then at the point, Raymond Felton dishes the ball well, but can't shoot at all. So you have some solid pieces on the team, but nobody that carries them on a night to night basis.

The Warriors on the other hand are coming off a HUGE win against the best team in the West, the Charlotte, I mean, Oklahoma City, I mean New Orleans Hornets. In a game that many thought they would lose, the Warriors pulled off a big win with a big 4th quarter. The team defense in that final quarter was some of the best defense I've seen all season. I would hope that this team could keep up the momentum it gained from that game, but sometimes it just feels like this team plays up for the top teams, but lackadaisical against the bad teams. They need to keep the intensity up for a full 48 minutes like they did against the Hornets. I don't expect them to because they rarely do it, but I can always hope.

The matchups will certainly be interesting. I expect Biedrins and Okafor to guard each other. But Harrington (assuming he starts) vs Wallace? That power forward matchup will be tough all night just like David West was. JRich vs SJax? Ooooh. JRich will have a tough time scoring. Monta vs Felton. I expect Monta to be able to beat Felton easily off the dribble. Lastly All-Star snub vs Jeff McInnis. Does anyone think Baron isn't a little insulted that he's not an All-Star? Does anyone think Baron won't have a chip on his shoulder looking to prove the coaches wrong? Look out McInnis, look out Charlotte. It'll be a track meet with the Warriors running all night and Charlotte trying to keep up.

Many of you may be wondering, is Chris Webber going to play tomorrow? Unfortunately, in an interview, Chris Mullin said the earliest he'll play is against Chicago next Thursday. He should be on the bench, but that's about as close to playing as he'll get. Speaking of Chris Webber though...

Tony.psd never ceases to amaze me with the ideas he has and his ability to deliver on those ideas.

And for those of you in the GSoM Night seats, Tony will be giving out some signs.

Tony will be giving out 2 of the Baron signs to some lucky fans. These make for some great one of a kind posters. Unfortunately, the Monta sign got stolen at Kinko's. Some jerk was waiting for Tony to turn his back and as soon as that happened, he was off with the stolen sign. Whoever that was, you're a sucka and not a real Warrior fan. That's just weak. Have some respect.

Anyways, I'm pumped for tomorrow. It'll be a wild and fun night at the Oracle. I'm looking forward to meeting some of you and taking in a Warriors game. If you're going to the game, what section are you in?

Predictions

  • Warriors win by 12
  • Baron and Monta combine for 60 points
  • Brandan Wright gets to play more than 5 minutes against his former team
  • JRich does not apologize after dropping 30
  • The GSoM sections go crazy!

the sign is so money.

question: are the shirts first come first serve or are we guaranteed shirts if we were the first 500? I ordered tickets earlier this week but I'm not 100% sure where I fall in the 520+ count.

Been looking forward to the game all week. Here's to hoping for some clear skies.

Shirts
Shirts are not first come, first serve. If you get a t-shirt coupon with your tickets, you will get a shirt. There will be exactly enough shirts as there are t-shirt coupons.

I heard...
that they were trying to print an extra 50-100 shirts to satisfy demand. Even if you don't get the shirt though, you get a discounted ticket and get to watch a great game.

J-Rich
is a classy guy. He was probably the only bright spot when we, well, sucked.
On the other hand, the trade proves that his production is replaceable, other players stepped up, and Warrior fans moved on.
I wish he has a good game tomorrow, but too bad for him Baron just got snubbed and Monta has improved tremendously for the past few games and playing great ball, so the Warriors are going to be pumped up.

by semarubaka on Feb 1, 2008 12:13 AM PST reply actions   0 recs

Cant wait
At least 212 for the shirt wont be a long walk from 213.
Jrich will always be one of my favs, so gotta be there.
Also wanna be there for the return of Webber. I'm hoping for a blowout and Nellie decides to put him in for a min or two, to just get it out of the way.
Lastly will be good to see boykins, always been a fan of his.

That is a sick design

I was hoping to see Webber play, but you know what? I think it's smart to not have him back the same night J-Rich returns

I love J-Rich and I definitely will be rocking my J-Rich jersey at the game!

section 120, rep it
Is it unrealistic to hope Webber will come out before the game and say hi? It's been sooo long. I was about 8 when he was last on the Warriors. I really just want to give him a welcome along with JRich. And Boykins.

yea, that picture of jrich holding the baby after they beat dallas last year? that was just some random baby in the crowd, he snatched it and was walking it around like it was his. btw, great preview to the game, that cracked me up, the part about brandan wright against his "former team". oh, if the warriors blow the charlotte bobcats out, how about we put in chris webber and brandan wright in the game together? we give brandan some much deserved game experience, and then with cwebb in, he'll be able to hook wright up with a c ouple of sweet passes for some highlight dunks.

about my SHIRT
i ordered the tickets when the count was about 320....

and now im worried because I don't get off work until 6:30pm so I'll be smashing over to the oracle stadium.

if i make it after the 500 get the ticket, does not that mean I don't get my t-shirts =[

and I WANT THAT BARON SIGN!

that IS A DOPE SIGN!!!

YEEEEEEE!!

GO WARRIORS!

Don't Worry
Don't worry about the t-shirt. As long as you have a t-shirt coupon, you will be getting a shirt. Just make sure to bring it to the game. The only people who can get shirts are those with the t-shirt coupon. Since you were one of the first, you should have received a t-shirt coupon. Remember to bring it to the game and then go to section 212 when you get to the arena. You'll redeem it there. There are exactly enough shirts as there are coupons. Nobody will be given a shirt without a coupon. Don't worry! =)

from someone in the bobcats
the team, guards especially, aren't taking too kindly to the boykins signing.  naturally, they fear he will limit their touches and PT.  not a surprising response considering how young of a team they are.

but don't be surprised if they W's blow them out tonight..

Stop predicting double digit victories...
Predict a loss, it won't make you any less of a Warriors fan, because you don't have to believe it, but the Warriors thrive on low expectations, even if they don't know about them.

I will root for J-Rich to make all his shots but the Warriors to win a game. The only time I won't root for J-Rich is if it is in crunch time. But goddamnit I love J-Rich so much, I am going to applaud from my living room when he is introduced (I will be PISSED if they don't show the pregame introductions on TV).

Bobcats
with the gift of NBALP I've basically adopted the Cats as my second team. I've only missed a few games this year.

They have a bad record but they've been playing much better as of late, most notably their win over the Celtics in Boston. They also pushed the Pistons and Cavs to overtime and have beaten the Nuggets in that same week.

Their offense is very one dimensional. They basically just give it to Gerald and he drives every time. For this reason I'm expecting a blow out honestly because Nelson is good at game planning against the opponent's strengths... We'll most likely put S Jax on Gerald but we'll give him a lot of help. Gerald's shot is vastly improved this year and when he's making it he's pretty unstoppable.

Expect whoever's guarding Jeff McInnis to play WAY off his man and help a lot. Nelson always does this with guys that suck at shooting...

cougars
I'm watching the game on HD and when Marco was at the scorers table getting ready to check in, I noticed two women in their mid 40's sitting in the 4th row or so pointing at Marco, and being pretty good at reading lips, one of them turned to the other and said "wow, he's hot" and they both just stared at him and started giggling.

I don't know why I pick up the most obscure things during the games but hey, I guess I'm just too observant.

crowd is yelling for Belinelli to shoot whenever he touches the ball. Reminds me of Manute Bol when he would get the ball beyond the 3 point line.

by PhilSmith on Feb 1, 2008 9:48 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

yep..
its a well known fact that beli owns the nub third stringers of the league like in the summer league. he just has problems with the first stringers and their bench.

but this is exciting.. i love seeing beli shooting. I know what buke and watson can do already. but beli is like this new move you can't wait to see

by saintdee on Feb 1, 2008 9:48 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

If I was Beli
which I am not, I would only take the high degree of difficulty shots. He doesn't think about it when he takes this shot and as a result all he has is his natural ability. If his mind doesn't get in the way of that, he'll be a stud.

I love how the crowd buzzes when he gets the ball.

by belilaugh on Feb 1, 2008 9:49 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

he does
have a flare about him. The difficult shot and he appears to be a very good(flashy)passer.

Nice Game ...
Taking care of business. Warriors now #7 in the West and moving forward.

And oh yeah, no All-Star representative.

Winning percentage 0.604   Go figure.

West coaches, thanks for the extra motivatation.

Did anyone else when
when that Hollins guy screamed something at POB and POB just fell backwards looking scared? That was funny. Hollins got a technical for that though

i was pissed when i saw that...it was really unneccesary and not acceptable when ur at the nba level

by eeeric on Feb 1, 2008 10:20 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

i was
sitting directly in front of them like 5 rows back. POB looked like he shit his pants lol. but all his teammates got pissed at him for doing that. it kinda reminds me of :   "UNSTOPPABLE, BABY!"
Golden State Warriors rookie Marc Jackson to the Mavericks' bench, after hitting a lay-up during a 29-point loss (2000)

lol. why would you do that? hahahaha

by baller90210 on Feb 1, 2008 11:53 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

not to mention
it's pathetic when you do that when you're down 30 points.

what a retard.

lol
he's gotta headband fetish. ok brandan wright stats looked good, but i can see why nellie would have a short a leash on him. he was usually in the wrong position defensively when the other guys drove in on him. also that guy who got a technical after dunking on o bryant, that pissed me off. show a little bit of class eh? i wished obryant would have gotten pissed and demanded the ball, show a little bit of fire please. but he did score his points while he was out there. i think he seriously needs to get more burn, this guydoes everything that the warriors lack.

Just got back from the game
Most GSOM nights are crazy. I don't know if because I got placed in the middle of a big group that came, that made it not as loud or just cause of the blowout.  The guy around me that decided to bring all his friends that dont seem to even care about basketball at all, leave them at home next time. Don't need another night of everyone around making comments like they have never seen the warriors and then half the game dont pay attention.  Just talking about crap, putting down the half time show (come on they were kids) and talking about the giants.

by Athletix Man on Feb 1, 2008 11:02 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

yeah dude.
this is the first GSOM night i went to( i didn't buy my tix from gsom), but they were definitely very quiet. i sat at sec 120? i think for like 2 quarters then moved down. that group sucked. but fun game anyway.

Nice to meet y'all
Thanks for the shirt. I was in 209 row 12 in the Spree jersey. Wright's dunk was nasty. And that intro movie pumps me up every time the Baron dunk shows. Where "Heeeeee's baaaack" happens.

I was there
but not with the GSoM crew. Some co-workers and I were down in 124 but when they showed the shoutout to GSoM I screamed "Yeah!!" Next time I'm with you.

Game was sick. B Wright's dunk was nasty.

NBA TV Top 10
Check #1. Giving Brandon Wright some lovin.

by sunghan on Feb 2, 2008 2:28 AM PST reply actions   0 recs

Wow, great game
It was always going to be a good game with J-Rich coming back and we played well enough to give Belinelli, Wright and O'Bryant some playing time. They were a combined 6-10 from the field with six rebounds and three assists between them in about 31 minutes. Wright's dunk was great and deserved to be #1 in the NBA TV Top 10.

Did they have you all spread out?
I was over in section 205 and my fiancee kept asking where you all were at. When they gave you the shout out I saw a small group of you across from us, but seemed smaller than what I saw opening night. Guess kind of hard to keep everyone together during a sell out.
