Trade Talk on ESPN- Jermaine O'Neal for Pietrus, Al, POB + TPE

Ric Bucher just said there were talks of warriors trading for Jermaine O'Neal for Pietrus, Al, POB, and the TPE, but he said it wasnt likely at the moment.

Thoughts? Good trade? Bad trade?

Not sure if I wanna let go of Al because of his hot streaks late in games where he just knocks down bucket after bucket, but JO is one hell of a big man when hes motivated to win

I'd do it.
Al would be the toughest to get rid of, as well as JO's remaining contract and health status. Recently he was stated as saying he wasn't going to rush back from his latest ailment,  and felt like he did rush his previous return. I'm in favor of getting O'Neal however and feel that if there was a time to get him it would be now since his value is down. Although the biggest detractors to JO is his contract and health status. But he's still fairly in his prime when 100% and could solve our problem with opposing bigs. It's not a real big loss, but could be a major gain...like many of Mullin's moves.

hmm
al back to indiana? lol.... as much as i want pietrus to go I don't want to trade so much for JO especially when JO's knee is so questionable. I'd rather keep or TPE for someone useful.

AND...
KIDD back to DALLAS?  VAN HORN back to the NETS?  It's not that far-fetched.

I've liked J.O. since his days in PORTLAND, but would it be worth it at this point to get him, if he can't even play?  It's like we'd be renting him for one year and we might not even get to see him play w/ BARON, MONTA and JAX.

If he can play TODAY, then I'm all for it...if he can't, I'm sure we can trade for someone who can be more of an impact NOW!

Do it
That will give us some toughness in the paint, so we can actually keep up with teams like the jazz and spurs.

?hmm
i dont know, the three people i like best who i think would work well on the dubs is Artest, Nene (untouchable? what if nugs get Artest?), and i also really like James Jones whos on portland now, I don't see them trading and not him anyway, but I think he would work real well on Nellies team: a physical 6-8 sharpshooter; though lacks what the other 2 have in defense

Nene or James Jones is that possible?

by sing sing supernote on Feb 19, 2008 8:51 PM PST   0 recs

UMMM...
NENE and JAMES JONES have been plagued w/ knee problems just like J.O.  I think JONES is out for like 6 weeks w/ knee tendinitis or something.  Other than that, he could be a pretty good addition from the outside, but I don't know who we would give up for another role player.  I think we need an impact player if we're going to give up someone like AL.

I would have liked NENE a couple of years ago!  Now?  Eh!

I'm down for ARTEST if it doesn't cost us too much to get him!  Is he worth enough to give up AL, MP and POB?  He definitely is an impact player, but although AL has some lapses on defense, he can light it up!

2 days and counting until the trading deadline!  We'll see! fingers crossed

Nene would be great
but his contract is really long and expensive. I'd be more concerned about JO than Nene injury-wise since Nene just had the cancerous tumor removed so it's not like that will be a lingering injury. I know he had knee problems before but he was healthy before the cancer surgery.

THAT'S RIGHT
NENE had testicular cancer and had it successfully removed.  He's still recovering though, so he definitely won't be on anyone's radar.  His contract isn't the greatest either!  I'd rather gamble on J.O. than NENE at this point, although he might not even be worth it right now.

I like it
I've always thought about getting JO, but wondered just how much can we "steal" away from Indiana. . .

O'neal has been..

by aznwarrior44 on Feb 19, 2008 9:02 PM PST   0 recs

hmmmm
id like to have JO on the team, but Al has been coming up big for us the whole season. i wonder if there is anyone else we could possible get rid of instead of Al?

wow
imagine if you were al harington and you were traded back to indiana? wouldn't you consider retirement? or would you ask to be traded to the hawks?

Bucher needed material so he made something up.
Sounds like B.S. by a writer with nothing to write about.  It's not likely because it isn't a legal trade.  The TPE cannot be combined with other players to bring in a player making more than the TPE.  The three players mentioned aren't enough on their own to bring back O'Neal.  The TPE is irrelevant.

[Not to mention that O'neal is a ridiculously over-rated injury prone has-been  who doesn't shoot particularly well, doesn't rebound particularly well and is unable to keep up with a running offense.]

by jae on Feb 19, 2008 10:13 PM PST   0 recs

No it works!
If Mullin also signs himself and a few others to a contract to make up the difference. I think it was a slow day on the trade front in the NBA and ESPN needed something to talk about.
Even if it was possible, Cohen would make sure it didn't happen.

by tangel29 on Feb 20, 2008 1:56 AM PST to parent up   0 recs

I like it. IF...
J.O. can stay healthy, which of course is a huge question mark. When O'neal is healthy and motivated he is a force in the half court set. I'm not too worried about him "slowing us down" since Baron, Monta and Cap'n Jack have no conscience and will run anyways. No one will be waiting for the big man to catch up. Think about how nice it would be to have a low post presence who brings defensive intensity and the ability to make clutch hoops and free throws. I think a commodity like that is immensely more valuable than a 4 who shoots like a 3 and defends like a wet paper bag. I like Al, but he's not the answer- O'Neal might be.
Warriors...come out to play-ay...

my idea- your thoughts?
we send
Big Al
Brandan Wright
POB
Chroshere
Pietris
1st round pick 2008 top 7 protected

we get
Jermaine
marquis daniels (aqquired in seperate deal using part of j-rich exception)

why we do it
-we get jermaine- low post presence, CAN GUARD BIGS AND PROTECT RIM. is he healthy tho. but remember- same ?'s about baron davis. jermaine is not going to play with pain for a bad team, he probably would for the warrrior
-marquis is on the books for next year at 6.8 mil, but then in 2010 its a team option which we probably would not pick up. this makes him pretty much an expiring contract

why indy does it
-gets jermaine huge contract off the books
-lottery pick in wright
-get half a year to look at air france and pob, then decide to keep them after this year or not.
-they send out 26 million in contracts and get 17 back, with about 11 mill on the books next year. they basically free up 15 million
- a first round pick

why we wouldnt
-definitely going over lux tax if it takes around 8 mill to match monta offer and 9-10 mill to match biedrins

pony up cohan! would he be convinced this could compete for a chip? more importantly, WOULD it compete for a chip?

lineup
baron
monta
jacks
jermaine
beans

kelenna
daniels
watson?
marco
kosta

weak bench- need some bigs!

by Nellieball on Feb 20, 2008 4:47 PM PST   0 recs

No no no
First of all Indiana will never trade with us again. It was like taking candy from a baby. WE gave up big contracts to get proven players who would work well in our system.

Now your talking about giving up young talent in B-Wright and a proven player in our system in Al for a injury prone, slow it down player with a huge contract. IMO Mully is smarter then doing something like that.

can we
stop trying to trade AL. He is an extremely talented player, playing out of position, and not complaining. He is our best 3point shooter at 6' 9", he pulls out 4s and 5s to open lane, what he brings to the table is  part of the reason warriors unique. And I don't really want J. O. any more anyway, I'd much rather Go after Brand, a proven hard worker, not a pout.
