EPISODE III
Cali Wars - A New Hope

Long time ago but really today, in a Staples Center far far away ...
Jump

Star-divide

CALI WARS
A New Hope

It is a war for state domination.
Our heroic Warriors, attacking
a fan bandwagon stadium, who have
tied the two game series so far
against the evil Galactic
Empire … the Lakers

During the battle, Baron "Han Solo" Davis
Will lead Monta "Luke Skywalker" Ellis
to his destiny with
plans to destroy the Empire’s
ultimate weapon, the Staples Center (also known as the DEATH STAR),
an armored traffic consuming stadium guarded by
thousands of Laker Fans (Storm Troopers)
hiding behind the one man who can stop us,
Kobe "Darth Vader" Bryant

Lead by the Empire’s evil emperor, Phil Jackson
Nellie "R2-D2" will have to come up with a master plan
To hold down Jabba the Hut (also known as Gasol)
And sneak in a win
In an unlikely situation … the story continues

Our alliance is set. We have snuck past security and are on our way to destroy the Staples Center. Holding us back is the first place team in the Western Conference the Los Angeles Lakers. Darth Vader recently combined with Jabba the Hut to form this ultimate force which propelled them to the top of the conference. The evil Lakers hold a nine game winning streak at the Death Star, and laugh at our attempt to end it. We haven’t won there since 2003.

Our loss Friday night to the Rockets jammed us a game and a half back of Dallas and we still hold the 8th spot. As redundant as it is imperative every game counts. If the playoffs were to start today, this would be the matchup of gigantic proportions. YaoButtaMing loathes the Lakers so much he’s going to cover both Episodes, tonight and tomorrow.

Who is going to stop this guy?

But we have a chance. With the recent success of C-3PO (Biedrins) taking Jabba the Hut to a Tatooine bar last night and leaving him there, the evil Lakers are without Jabba for the next two games. Will Princess Jessica Alba be there to support? Only time will tell.

So the stage is set. Han, Luke, Chewbacca (Barnes), C-3PO, and R2-D2 have snuck into the Staples Center with their goal in sight, to win the game and get out as fast as they can. Will they succeed?

No Predictions but YaoButta’s contest: Baron loves to play well in LA. Give me the combined points scored of Baron and Kobe. If tie, please tell me which team wins tonight?

Winners are tallied for end of season YaoButtaMing awards!

Special Thanks again to Tony.Psd!!

I expect our best
For game 2 of the Octagon, against the Lakers, I expect us to pull out our best plays, our best teamwork, our best energy, and give the Lakers a good fight. I can accept a loss as long as the Warriors play at a high level.

MP2
is questionable tonight... hope he makes it, because he´s playing really well as of late... I hope we win tonight because Denver won, if we lose, we will be only 0.5 game ahead of them... gotta pull this one out!
I think 113-105 Warriors!!
Baron with the triple double and Jackson with clutch 3s!!
Go Dubs!

Kobe will come out hot tonight. I can feel it.

Stop the LA Fakers
Back in the day, growing up in the Bay, I loved the Lakers (Magic, Kareem, Cooper, Clark Kent, etc) and hated the Celtics.  Now living in LA, I can't stand the Fakers, Phil Jackson's smug attitude and Kobe's not knowing the meaning of loyalty disposition.  F--- the Fakers.

We believe.

hopefully Baron will pull a Sleepy Floyd
but Kobe could pull an MJ and go for 81 ...

let's hope Kobe pulls something else ...

combined score 68, Dubs lose by 8: 113-105

i'd
be happy if kobe pulled the same kobe in oracle on Dec 14. where he only had like 22 points on a horrible shooting percentage.

no Bynum, & if no Gasol
we have a better chance than I realized - we could even (gulp) take both

Yes, he was
that's why I'm slightly cynical about that win vs the Lakers. Exciting as it was to see Baron's final three, I didn't feel it was a TRUE test.

If we win
it would only be by 2 or 3 points, I mean, can anyone really see us blowing the Lakers out on their home floor?

I think we are going to lose, I hope we win, but all the evidene points towards a loss on this one.

On another note, in the past 7 games, Al Harrington's best 3 point percentage was 33%. We need his long range bombing to stretch out the defense. He needs to get it going, no excuses.

And if Pietrus is out, does that mean we will be seeing Barnes or Azubuike? Time to see who Nellie favors as of right now.

by belilaugh on Mar 23, 2008 4:33 PM PDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Lakers seem undersized
It should be a win for the Dubs if they just play hard and share the ball. Bad news is, I thought the same thing during the Rockets game and we lost. I just hope the officiating is at least balanced tonight.

take GSW + 7 tonight?!
never check these usually, but was surprised to see good guys 7.5 point favorites tonight

by hardcore on Mar 23, 2008 5:03 PM PDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Good guys = Warriors hopefully
Hopefully the good guys are the Warriors. The Lakers are actually favored to win. The +7.5 means the Warriors are underdogs, meaning add 7.5 points to the Warriors score - if they come out on top you win.

by Fantasy Junkie on Mar 23, 2008 5:12 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

ooooh, can ya tell
i dunna look at such things often?  i d i o t!

I'll take a win, by one

in fact, without Gasol, and Bynum even just winning by 4 after blowing a 26 point lead would be ok with me

by hardcore on Mar 23, 2008 9:07 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

warriors got work hard
to win tonight. I don't want to see guys go stupid during crunch time. If they are giving you the lane you take it. Don't settle for jumpers.

Last time the Lakers played the night before against the Spurs.

Today the Lakers are well rested and hot. Other than radmonovic. Everyone only put in 30 minutes or less against the Sonics. Everyone besides Fisher shot ~48% or better the last two games combined. Playing the sonics does slight skew the % a bit but not by much.

We're gonna need Pietrus to show up and keep playing like he's been playing.

I want to see Nellie exercise some good judgement. If the Lakers are blowing us out. Accept the lost and rest Baron and Co. We get them again the next night. I don't want Baron to overexert himself putting in 40+ minutes and try to pull off some miracle 20 point comeback.

Monte Ellis QUICKER than Barbosa
Listening to LA Lakers pre-game show. Phil Jackson was interviewed by some doofus, and said, without hesitating, that Monte Ellis is quicker than Barbosa. I agree.

I hate to be a pessimist
but if the Warriors lose this, it will be crushing.

And the Warriors do tend to get casual with these big leads and LA still has Kobe and Fisher, who can light it up if they get a little opening.

Stop trying to post Buke up Kobe, you can't move those biceps! Watch the biceps Buke!

you are a prophet sir! The first half is an illusion. No way Lakers will play this carelessly in the second half. Our only hope is that Jackson can go on a hot streak. PLZ!!!  But third quarter collapse is coming. We are only going to score 19 points 3rd quarter and 23 the 4th.

If we don't win tonight we don't deserve playoffs
Given the significance and importance of this game and the lead we had in the first half, this would be arguably our worst loss of the season.

I predict we lock down on the defense end in the last half of the 4th quarter and win by 8 but if they don't stop settling for long jumpers it just shows how we would get rolled in the first round anyway.

If we don't generate turnovers we don't get easy offense.  This team has similarities to the A's teams that made the playoffs in the early 2000's they are built on principles that don't work in the post season (the A's on getting a bunch of walks, Warriors on other team committing turnovers to generate offense).

If we can't learn to run some sort of half court offense we will never beat elite teams in a 7 game series, it's asking too much from our mostly streaky outside shooters.

by ScorpioSnake on Mar 23, 2008 8:28 PM PDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I liked it better when we spent the game
down 10. The double digit leads against the Rockets and Lakers aren't doing anything. At least when we were down when we came back we had all the momentum. when the game was close. Now they have all the momentum when the game is close.

Nelson has to realize that the Warriors get casual when up big and has to correct it. I know he notices the one on one play.

I can't read Monta tonight
but I think he'll split these. He's looked good at line though.

Still too much
standing around. The Warriors aren't moving the Laker's zone around.

Freakin Biedrins is playing like the biggest......
Punk the latest couple of games.
How does he consistently let Odom get these offensive rebounds and put them back in while he stands there to the side of him???
Can he not put his 7 foot body in front of him????

Nice block by Odom,
dang, we could have really used that. Would have given us momentum, instead it gives them momentum and might have taken away Baron's fire.

It's a Mexican heritage thing...
they did it for the Spurs and the Suns too.  Terrible jersey designs, they should have done it up better like the "Gigantes" jerseys the Giants wore.  There was a good article about how poorly done the Mexican heritage stuff was done on the Uniwatch blog.
