EPISODE IV
Cali Wars - Revenge of the Lakers

The Warriors have returned to
their home planet of Oakland in
an attempt to finish off this
series by beating the evil empire.
Baron "Han Solo" Davis
will try to rebound from his poor performance and lead
his team to show Darth Vader who is boss.

Little do the Fakers know
Secretly, we hold the best fans in the world
And our Ewok allies will help us out
with sharp tongues and hilarious posters.
It is now time
To put an end to Darth’s reign
and secure playoffs hopes.

Last episode was a torturous rollercoaster of emotions
Tonight will be about our home advantage
The Oracle,
this ultimate fortress will certainly help
but will it be enough for the alliance?

We might need the princess for tonight’s episode!

If you saw last night’s game you’ll know tonight is going to be even tougher. After sprinting to a 26 point lead in the first half, the Warriors blew it all away and almost lost it in the end. Thanks to a heroic Stephen Jackson, the Staples Center was destroyed. Do we have enough energy to take care of business? I’m hoping our fans bring the force … because we’re going to need it.

Even with Denver’s win last night we still hold a game and a half lead. But interestingly enough, with Dirk’s injury we might have a chance to catch Dallas in the rankings. Half a game behind them, a win tonight would put us tied in 7th.

No Predictions but YaoButta’s contest: Ok so no winners last night. Let’s make this easier. Combined score of the game. If there is a tie please tell me who leads the game in rebounds. Good Luck!

Winners are tallied for end of season YaoButtaMing awards!

Lakers, once again, win the rebound title by 15+

If rebounder has to be a person...
I hate to be boring and choose Odom like everyone else, but who's seriously going to stop him?  Beans is in a funk, he doesn't break out of it tonight.

combined score
229

Leading rebounder, I'll go with Odom doing the same thing again.

Even though Pietey has been playing really well lately, if he wasn't hurt last night, Buike would not of had the same kind minutes. I'd be okay if he's still resting his injury.

I'm probably even more nervous tonight since we won last night. I predict Baron dropping 20+ pts and 10+ assts.

Am I Michael Scott? I don't know. I might just be a basketball machine.

Pau makes a pretty good Anakin. same hair and everything...

Would Kobe make a good darth maul? Put the facepaint and horns, I think it could work!

even if Kobe is the true Dark Jedi of the league. Tantrums and all. I can imagine him choking out his teammates on the bridge of a Star Destroyer or the Death Star.

COMBINED SCORE OF 202
Both teams are coming off last night's game so their legs might be a little jello thus the low combination score (low relative to The Dubs of course). That's a stone cold lock.

230-Odom
Gasol is definitely a wookie.

Dirk is in a walking boot but no crutches (per Marc Stein @ ESPN.com), hopefully they won't pull a Houston and go on a winning rampage.

My girlfriend hates that I'm into basketball again, and that I yell at the TV during games.

a combined score of 227
is my prediction. Also gonna have to say Lamar Odom as the leading rebounder.

i also wonder if buike will get the start to guard kobe?  probably not, but we all know Nellie is crazy, so its always possible.

go dubz!!!!!!

final score..
leading rebouder for the lakers would be odom, and for the warriors biedrins

by GSwarrior on Mar 24, 2008 11:45 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

I feel the
Lakers are gonna play extremely hard and way better than last night, because they don't want to lose 2 in a row to the same team. I think its a 50/50 shot for us to win, it just really depends on if we can get our steals and run!

Dude Seriously
all these Star Wars references is a bit too D&D crowd don't you think? No better way to clear a room than start referencing obscure quotations from Science Fiction.

by triplesix on Mar 24, 2008 12:03 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

no
... i dont think so... i mean you're already on a internet site that blogs about a sports team.. if you're here posting they chances are you are a little bit nerdy, certainly nerdy enough for a little star wars reference fun.

by saintdee on Mar 24, 2008 12:54 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

You were obviously not around for the '70s
Neither was I, but Star Wars was pretty big, not "obscure Science Fiction".  Now, if they were making Star Trek references...

Speaking of which, the JA Adande article referenced in "Warriors getting some more love from the media." also uses Star Wars themes.  Is he on this blog?  Is he YaoButtaMing?!?!?!  Or is he just stealing material...

by Dubs fan in Boston on Mar 24, 2008 1:02 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

actually i think
it was becuase of something nellie said post game.

"Don't ask the coach," Nelson said. "I have no clue. Sometimes the Force is with you, sometimes it isn't. Throughout the game, the Force can change sides. Which it did tonight."

- JA Adande's article on espn today.

by ilubthedubs on Mar 24, 2008 2:03 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

i can
how?

i've been born in USSR lol

while you were growing up on starwars my TV shoved just endless movies about russian heroics in WW2 and what Gorby thinks about corn on workers in Vladivostok

by Lat We N Trash on Mar 24, 2008 3:00 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

and
that makes you dislike star wars? if you watched it you'd like it too :)

by saintdee on Mar 24, 2008 3:03 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

actually
i dislikes starwars -it's too boooooring for me

probably because one of the worst scripts ever (IMO)

fifth element > SW
for me

actually i m not big fan of this kind of sci-fi
(when i was a kid i was reading a lot of sci-fi books and believe me those all were better then any SW movie)

my favorite directors are
Gibson
Tarantino
Coen brothers

even after watching The Big Lebowski 100second time i'd say that i don't want to waste time by watching SW

by Lat We N Trash on Mar 24, 2008 3:18 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

ok
the big lebowski was a great movie in my opinion, but for different reasons than starwars.

i dont think people love star wars for the acting or writng. People who grew up watching the star wars movies love it becuase 1. of the entire mythology that surrounds it. and 2. because it was so groundbreaking and revolutionary for its time.

i assume you didnt see it when you were really young and that you watched it for the first time when you were older and had more analytical skills? If so i could see why you wouldnt appreciate it as much as a child would.

Also, my original comment that "i dont see how someone could not like star wars" was somewhat cynical if you didnt realize, i hope you didnt take me too seriously.

by ilubthedubs on Mar 24, 2008 4:21 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

the reason is
exactly as you said -i didn't grew up on this -and when i saw old series they were OLD

and BTW imagine if you are about 11 years old kid and must watch StarWars in crappy quality with even more crappy single-nasal-voice russian translation -then probably you'll like Rambo more lol

no - i actually didn't take it really serious

I MAY BE HOMER BUT I MAY NOT BE DOUBTER

wait ... i just crapped my pants ...
did you say fifth element is better then star wars.

if that's the case i won't even begin to argue with you ... this is Blasphemy!

by YaoButtaMing on Mar 24, 2008 4:30 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Listen
I'm not saying I don't like the Star Wars movies (they were all pretty good, and I was around in the late 70's/early 80's) - all I'm saying is that maybe we shouldn't be consulting our Dungeon Master's or rolling our polyhedral die to breakdown the Warrior/Laker match-up. And I would disagree that in this day and age you have to be "nerdy" to blog about basketball - now if you playing WOW (and purchasing virtual items with real money) - that's a different story. Hell, everyone has a computer nowadays so I guess everyones a nerd.

PLAY WITH URGENCY !!!
We have to keep up the same intensity we had in the first half last night!! No getting complacent, standing around on isos waiting for somebody to do something and quite chucking ill advised 3's !!!! During that miserable 3rd quarter the pick and rolls were almost non-existant! When we have a lead, push the petal to the floor and go up by 30 !!! And can someone keep Odom off the glass! Give Perovic some PT,he's taller than Odom.I'd like to see more BW and even Perovic together with Bieds.

We are going to lose this, because we think we will win this. Playing to expectations does not equal the Warriors' style.

There's no way the Lakers go as cold as they were in the second quarter, Kobe won't let them. He is going to be coming out firing, and without Bynum/Gasol, he will have the green light all night.

Yep I remember those preseason games against LA, granted Bynum and Gasol put them at a higher level, I just don't see LA being a #1 seed, they play like a #2-5 seed at this point....

so we have a 6 man rotation, on the second game of a back to back, how is this smart for the short or long term? Is Croshere still injured? Wright can't even give us a few minutes in the third?

Lakers were shooting 37% at the half, now it's 45%.

Monta and Biedrins are having subpar games, Al disappeared in the third, if it weren't for Azubuike and Kobe staying cold (until the very end) we'd be looking at something worse than a one point disadvantage.

Was his daughter really dying though?
Or was that just a setup to break his contract?  A lot of people called the Utah fans classless when they booed him every possession (and I agree Utah is the most class less fans) but in that regard I kind of think they are right.  This dude is totally dishonest and with that kind of karma it's no wonder things happened, if they really did happen.

I had a big beef with the way he broke his contract and then re-signed, it would have been fine had he taken some time off or only played in the home games or something out of the ordinary.  No he signs with the Lakers and keeps living like a normal NBA player.  I don't know that I buy that story at all.

This is the kind of loss that makes you want to stop spending money to support the league!

And don't try and take shots at me for doubting Derek Fischer's honesty, he's given me ample reasons to question his integrity!  I'm not saying I hope his daughter dies (does he even HAVE a daughter, okay that's going to far) but he's suspect for sure!

intent to injure
flopping's a part of the game. even hard fouls are a part of the game. trying to injure someone is a crime. of course, it's hard to prove either way, but intent matters.

i don't blame floppers. i blame the refs who make the improper call. like the ref did in this situation. it was so sad losing like that.

HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE CALL...
But the game's over now and we lost. So the only positive I could get out of this is that if we meet in the 1st round we'll have a chip on our shoulder simply based on that one bad call. We play better with a chip on our shoulder. If we would have won both of these games then the Lakers would carry that chip on their shoulders. Again, a HORRIBLE call but that's the only positive I could see with this game.

was terrible the whole game. It was evident the way our guards were getting pushed around in the air the whole game, especially Monta. The last call just topped it off.

Effing refs. Time to take it back against the Blazers then show the Nuggets that they're not taking our spot.

by WarriorFanForLife on Mar 24, 2008 10:36 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

The ref closest to Stack Jack screwed up...
Delaney did make a bad call but he had no angle, the dude timing the inbounds pass should have made the call he had an excellent angle but he must have been watching Stephen Jackson on the inbounds.  They need to bring the replay challenge to basketball, it's by far the hardest game to call and for clearly blatant screw ups they should use the technology that's available.

by ScorpioSnake on Mar 24, 2008 10:37 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Problem is...
How do you do that?  There are so many fouls that it'd be impossible to just say "Ok, you get to challenge 3".  And in football, replay is decided from upstairs.  You can't relay that kind of stuff down fast enough for basketball and you'd have play stop every 3 possessions.  It'd be ridiculous.

CBS BLOGGER:
Take a look at what the play by play cbs blogger wrote:
"As good a referee as Bob Delaney is, he is going to be disgusted with himself when he sees what he just did. One of the most wonderful games these eyes have ever witnessed has just ended in the most-anticlimactic and disappointing way. Chapter one started with a huge Warrior surge. They were running the ball, playing a tight zone, and shooting very well. Chapter two featured a Laker team that delegated their energy use well, while the Warriors began to fatigue after playing two games in two nights. Then, all of a sudden the Warriors go on a 10-1 run to tie the game in the last 2:23. If the Warriors had been able to keep the tempo up throughout, this game would have been a landslide in their favor. However, as in last night, the Lakers came out strong in the third quarter, but, as opposed to last night, they won this game after a bad call in overtime and solidified their Western conference standing. They go on to face three weak Eastern teams in Charlotte, Memphis, and Washington. The Warriors find themselves neck-to-neck with the Nuggets for eighth place in the West and will face them on Saturday in a crucial game."

Oh the savvy vets
Workin the refs like none other.  Kinda reminds me when Hines Ward drew a PI call on 4th down by grabbing the other player's facemask and screaming.

Shitty officiating happens.  The same players (Fisher, Horry, Bowen, Manu, DWade, etc.) are always involved because they understand how to work the officials.  I'm sure there's lots of "glad handing" involved.  It's too bad Fish didn't teach it to the young guys when he was here.  I think this is the sort of thing that would be policed by the players in the NHL.  Flopper huh?  That's a beatdown.  Or a stick to the back of the head.

They shoulda just thrown Kosta, PoB and the rest of the bench out there and all walked off the court.  Or somebody should have punched Fisher in the mouth.

Ok, ok.
See a lot of comments saying the same thing so....

First off, Fisher started crying like a baby AFTER the call. Someone said that's why they made the call...no.

Secondly, after the initial call, Fisher got dumped on by Harrington(I think). Come on now. If a 6'9 250 guy fell onto me, I'D be on the floor crying too. Granted, Fisher's reaction looked a bit excess, but cut him some slack...

Now, if anything, the blame is on the ref, NOT Fisher. Sure, he flopped like a little baby, but he's trying to win the game for his team...if roles were reversed and Ellis was on D instead of on offense, we'd all be celebrating on how great he was. I personally don't give a rat's ass about Fisher, but I saw someone saying shit about his daughter, and that's just wrong.

On an interesting side note, anyone check out the Yahoo scoreboard during the game? They continuously had the Warriors at 3 points less than they were actually at for a good portion of the game, and they even had the game over at 111-108 when it was 111-111 going into overtime.

Favoritism much? Looks like Yahoo loves the Lakers...or hates the Warriors. Wouldn't be the only people....thanks Deleany!

more
After Golden State took a four-point lead midway through overtime, Vujacic's 3-pointer with 43 seconds left put the Lakers ahead by two. Azubuike tied it with a tipped basket, but Odom easily drove the lane for the go-ahead score.

When the Warriors attempted to inbound the ball at midcourt, Delaney called an offensive foul on Ellis while he was tangled up with Fisher. Both players appeared to have their arms around each other, but the call infuriated the Warriors and all but handed the game to the Lakers, who got two clinching free throws from Bryant with 3.3 seconds to play.

This loss was not the refs it was last night.
You blow a 26 point lead on the first half of a back to back, and have to fight for the win in game one, when you should not played a starter at all in the 4th.

The next game you have no legs at all and have to go into ot and still lose.

So the you split the series, who would you rather be ?

The team that blows a 26 point lead and wins, than lose on their home court in ot.

Or the team that comes back after being 26 points down, loses and goes and wins on the road.

1-1 who you want to be?

Esp. if we play them in the playoffs. They own us, and nothing in these two games has changed that.

These two games will have a ripple effect. I would not be surprised if we get run on Thursday. We have already shown we can beat the teams we are suppose to beat at home.

heart
I didnt say there was something wrong with their hearts.

There is never anything wrong with their hearts, its the execution.

Unfortunately, its exactly what Barkley says about us.

So to me I would rather be us and run and gun, make the playoffs with no chance to win a ring. Than some boring team that makes the playoffs and doesn't win a championship.

The question is when does it get old? Heart doesn't make them jack threes up with a 10 point lead 5 seconds into a shot clock that is stupidity.

by Johnmatrix on Mar 24, 2008 11:19 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Right
Wasn't the refs.

Wrong. The Lakers don't "Own" the Warriors this year. Kobe has struggled in these games b/c baron, buik and jax don't give him easy looks. The biggest problem is Odom and Bynum, and now Pau. Still, the Warriors played the Bynum/Kobe Lakers close in the first game and beat them in the second game.

The Lakers only outscored GSW by 8 points over four games this year, earning a series split. It's tight, each team went 1-1 at home, and tonight the Warriors were the better team for most of the game tonight.

Odom is playing the best ball of his career right now, and Fisher was a smooth operator at the end and baited the ref into ending the game four seconds early. It's a competitive series this year, and the playoff series would be more of the same, definitely going 7 games. Have a little faith, the W's are for real this year.

My girlfriend hates that I'm into basketball again, and that I yell at the TV during games.

Good overall effort
Despite the bad call by Delaney, we played pretty well against the Best in the West. Not making crucial free throws proved our demise as well as Monta Ellis not playing like he usually does. If we made 80% of our free throws and Monta did his magic with his quickness, we would have won this game easily. It's even more unfortunate for us that Denver won tonight. Let's hope we end up with a winning record in our last 10 games in hope to win 50 games!

something interesting to think about
The Lakers were playing with their 2ND STRING PF as their STARTING CENTER.  Pause a moment and take that information in.

Next thing to consider: MVP was playing with a bum ankle, in addition to the jacked finger, along with ONE eye after Baron's cheap shot.

With Bynum and Pau, you will have a hard time matching your wonderful success in the Utah series last year, where you actually won a game.

Warriors believe, Lakers expect.

baron's cheap shot? right I guess its a cheapshot when your superstar(kobe) tries to draw a offensive foul by putting his body on the line.. i guess its baron's fault that kobe's face got in the way of his elbow while he was trying to make a perfectly routine layup.

And no one is debating with you on the fact that you're missing bynum and gasol. We know our weaknesses.. most of us don't want to match up with the lakers in the playoffs.

We are angry for the refs deciding the game when its vital to our playoff chances. We could care less that it was against the lakers. If this game was against the grizzlies we'd still be pissed.
