Chris Webber Retires After 15 Golden Years

Earlier this morning Chris Webber and the Golden State Warriors held a press conference announcing his retirement from the NBA.

Here's a snippet of the press conference:

You can check out the full video of the press conference over on Warriors.com.

In his press conference Webber alluded to wanting to stay around professional hoops and that 2 teams had already contacted him. Yesterday when word first broke about the retirement I said he'd make a fine assistant coach and maybe a head coach someday because of his off the charts hoops IQ. I could also see him making a pretty good front office man a few years from now after learning the ropes. He's always struck me as a smooth and bright guy. I think he'd be a far better GM than former players like Kevin McHale, Isiah Thomas, Billy King, Danny Ainge, John Paxon, Danny Ferry, and Chris Mullin (Don Nelson saved him). Not that those are some all time great front office personnel by any stretch, but I'll take my chances with Webber in 3-5 years against those guys.

But CWebb's first profession after playing pro hoops as he noted will probably be as a TV analyst. GSoM friend John Ryan has the inside scoop that CWebb will begin his TV career on TNT tomorrow night in a double header that features of course... the Golden State Warriors! Webber's just subbing in for Kenny Smith this week, but I could see him being a fantastic addition to the already Grade AAA TNT NBA crew. Maybe we should start a count of how many times they replay this on TNT:

As an editorial note, I have to say I really loved the drama and excitement of covering the Chris Webber and Don Nelson short, but wildly entertaining reunion tour on the Golden State Warriors 14 years after the breakup and start of the drought (see The Dirty Dozen: 1 | 2 | 3). Part of me now feels complete. The curse is over. I'm just waiting for Chris Cohan to sell the team now. Two words: Larry Ellison. He put the Oracle in Roaracle.

good for him
i guess thats all we can say.  a healthy and in shape chris webber would have been great for the warriors.  instead, we'll have to do it like we have been for the last year, and just grind out every win we can.  but good for cwebb i guess.  he seems happy at his retirement, and that's all someone can really ask at that point in their career.

I'll miss him.
He was really something for us. Even though he spent some short time in his career in Oakland, watching him play was just amazing.

And hey, pretty cool that the last YouTube clip you used was actually my own very clip I took at the game.

Happy Retirement
I watched the press conference on NBA.com and he seemed pretty happy. He has thanked all the coaches he has played under, all the players he has played with and against and now he wants to spend more time with family and friends though he still wants to work in basketball. Thanks for everything C-Webb.

C-Webb
It's at least nice to see Webber take his career full circle before hanging it up.  It's good to know that he was able to achieve closure on his relationship with Nellie before retiring.

Now on to more important things... like making the playoffs! ;)

I pray i never have to use a gun again.

c-webb gets a ring somewhere after becoming a coach  teaching centers how to shoot elbow jumpers and how to pass.

My guess
is that POB or Kosta comes back up from D-league... whichever one is there now.

ummm
in case you didn't know Kosta is already back from the D-league. POB will play as much as possible in the D-League because Nellie will not play him. POB and Kosta already count for a roster space. And we can't sign anybody right now and use them for the playoffs anyway so the spot will likely be empty till the summer.
