Around SBN: BTB's Final Preseason NCAA Hoops Bracket

OPEN THREAD: Game #76- Warriors @ Memphis - P to the Anic

Warriors (W-L): 45-30

Grizzlies (W-L): 22-55

Time: 5:00pm PST

TV: CSN Bay Area

Radio: KNBR 1050

We should have pressed this a while ago!
Now I'm trying to be as optimistic as I possibly can ... but we are in serious PANIC mode right now! Losing 3 of our last 4 games and looking sluggish at best, we are a full game out of the playoff hunt with only 7 games remaining.

Will this turn out like last year when the last game of the year determines our destiny? I hope not. Every game is HUGE!
After the jump, let's see what we face tonight!

Jump

Star-divide

If there's one bright spot to tonight's game, it's that we've won the past 3 games against the Grizz. More importantly, this couldn't have come at a better time for a much needed victory game. Now I'm not trying to overlook the Grizz, but if we lose tonight consider us done for the year. We can't afford to lose any more games with Denver playing well and considering their next three games are against teams under .500 we better take tonight seriously.

With the emergence of Mike Conley Jr. and Rudy Gay teaming up with Warrior killer Mike Miller, this is going to be tough. If we play lackadaisical like we did against the Mavs, it's going to be a loooong game.

This is what we are going to do to them!

If we are going to make the playoffs and win the majority of our remaining 7 games, we desperately need Jackson to step up. Unseen in the past 2 losses, he has to regain the leadership and take us to the playoffs. Monta and Baron couldn’t do it alone last game. Will Pietrus be back in time? I sure hope so.

WE BELIEVE! WE BELIEVE in you Warriors and trust that in 7 games we'll make the playoffs. Do you believe? What a way to start the weekend off early. Let's support our best Bay Area team this afternoon!

No Predictions but YaoButta's contest:
How many points are the Warriors going to win by? If tie please tell me the combined score of Monta and Baron!
Winners are tallied for end of season YaoButtaMing awards!

I predict...
That they win a somewhat close one, a game that they lead by 7-14 points most of the night.  This is their fixit game, and in all honesty, i believe they will win, though not by a ton, and then stomp New Orleans on Sunday.

After 2 losses...2 completely emotionless, energyless, lackadaisical losses (sorry to steal your big word, Yaobutta), it's hard to bounce back with a win of epic proportions.  I feel today will be the segway game towards their recent poor play, and their future fantastic play.

Come on, W's, play with the energy and emotion that you played with this time last season!  You gotta want it mork than Dirkalicious and Carmelo bar! Maybe we should beat them by doing something they don't...let's go warriors, PRACTICE!

LOL... the graphic
The graphic up top looks neat-o except for Jackson's clipping path. It looks like a cut out, lol. They should have feathered the image to hide the cut out. Damn, I hate noticing those little details!

...and it's like that! Coz' that's the way it is... Dubz!

Pietrus is going to energize us
Warriors by 12. Monta (hometown boy) goes off for 30. Baron+Monta = 50.

No more back-to-back and 4 games in 5 days sets means the Warriors should be ready to bring max intensity every night.

Good prediction and choice of numbers.
8 = monta ellis jersey # and 2008

6 + 1 = 7 (games to win and take us to the promise land)

I know. Too much. That is going on another tangent.

promise land
wouldn't call it a promise land. More like fantasy island or paradise. Unless, of course, we just want 12 consecutive playoffs appearances to make up for the drought before.

if
we hadn't lost 2 time in a row i'd say we're due for a loss to the grizz(see 4th minnesota twolves game)

i say we win by 2. Grizz will lead most of the way.

One at a time playa...
Let's concentrate on tonight's game.  We have to look at it one game at a time.  If we can't beat the Grizzlies tonight, we shouldn't be in the playoffs.  I got BD and Monta for 58.  Jax has got to show up.  W's 118, Griz 106.

MUST WIN (obviously)
I know that last Mavs game was a must win game but this is a MUST MUST win game. It's a team we should beat but I've said that a lot this season. If we don't win this one, we might as well start getting excited about B-Wright's break out year for next season. Most Dubs fans are a little down right now and I don't mean to sound cliche' but you have to 'believe'. In other words, don't wear the "We Believe" t-shirts if you really don't believe. We gotta make like a woman in labor and make one last push! (A horrible analogy I know, but pretty original no?)

We have to win all 7
To make the playoffs. If we even lose one game I believe our season is over. It will take at least 52 wins to make the playoffs since Dallas and Denver own both tie breakers. I put our playoff chances at 8%.

5-2
We need to go atleast 5-2 in the next 7 games to have any chance.  Luckily 4 of the games (Memphis, Clips, Seattle, Sacto) SHOULD be easy wins!  Out of the 3 remaining (NO, Denver, Suns) we need to win atleast one!  If that one is against Denver we should be in good position.  I think this team just likes to make their fans have heart attacks. Crossing my fingers, I BELIEVE!

by krazybalr on Apr 4, 2008 11:42 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

what
makes you think that sac and clippers are easy wins?  we barely won against sac at home last time. Ellis' midrange doesn't have February's accuracy.

he should play 40 minutes all of a sudden. just about 10 minutes or so per half like he got in the first half. plus no one else on the team plays much defense so marco's lack of defense isn't really an argument against him

by AJC3317 on Apr 4, 2008 6:17 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

half agree
Marco could be a hit-and-run instant offense type. But he's got no lateral quickness so it will only be a matter of time until teams start to iso against him. I think Nellie sort of took Iavaroni by surprise by playing Marco so early.

Maybe he could get some pt, but I don't where those 10 minutes are gong to come from int he regular rotation.

Believe it or not, some Warriors play pretty good defense given their pace-of-play -- Jackson, BD, MP,Andy, and now Buke.

I hate Baron
when he's stubborn and wants to go 1 on 5 with four players open.

by buky on Apr 4, 2008 6:08 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

interesting..
how on that last possession, Baron had a completely wide open Harrington at the top of the arch and just ran by him for a harder shot instead of dishing it... im thinkin maybe baron isn't trusting Al right now...

doesn't help that the lead shrunk since Al came into the game..

by PIETRUSandCREAM on Apr 4, 2008 6:09 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Even though Memphis
is not a good team, and we're supposed to beat them, I'm happy about the WAY the Warriors beat them this half. Team ball, more assists, ball movement, fewer isos and one-on-ones, looking for each other, etc.

Warriors by 14
The Warriors played some good basketball in that half and got a number of players involved. Biedrins did well offensively, as did Azubuike and Belinelli, who scored 9 points in limited minutes with a variety of shots. He got an offensive tip in, a two handed flush, a 3 pointer from the corner and a fadeaway jump shot and deserves some more playing time.

We may even see Kosta Perovic in the 2nd half.

PT
It seems like Nelson is doing a great job of rotating out players ensuring that players are getting rest, but Kelenna has played all 24 minutes. He looks tired, but he's playing both ends of the floor and I'm impressed with his play lately.

Anyhow, I'm loving the way the Warriors are playing. Let's hope they keep it strong in the 2nd half.

On a side note, it is good to see Marco shoot the ball well, but we all know that the kid can score, yea? Let's see if Barnes has a chance to redeem himself.

If lead holds up I'm sure we'll see Kosta as well.

If you had to choose...
Steinmetz, Ric Bucher, or Pam Oliver? my choice would probably be Pam...

by PIETRUSandCREAM on Apr 4, 2008 6:21 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Steinmetz understated the point
I think they have to run the table given the unfavorable tie-breaker situation.

Take care of business tonight (and, dare I say, even get some rest for the starters) and we live to play another meaningful game.

Obviously I haven't seen much, but to me Belinelli looks like a much better passer than he gets credit for. That pass to Buke, it was probably too fast, but I was very surprised he got the ball there.

Also, don't expect Belinelli to get much playing time unless we are winning big. I think Nellie was just switching things up, keeping his team alert against a subpar team. I love Belinelli, but I don't think it is his time yet.

Goddamn
Belinelli is a beast. I really think he could be the key to winning the should win games. I don't think he would be stroking like this at all against a good team, but since the Warriors can struggle against terrible teams, maybe he can help out there.

Oh no!
I mean, I know Barnes is supposed to find his shot now, but is it just me or do these games do nothing for his confidence? He could go 10 for 10 and he would still struggle in a close game against New Orleans.

Plus the Warriors look beautiful with all the movement, I hope Barnes doesn't screw it up.

Good Win, Good Night
Enjoyed tonight's game - seeing players like Belinelli, Wright and Watson do well off the bench and Andris leading the way with 21 and 17. Baron wasn't even in double figures in a 31-point win but he helped our bench players score some points and it was a good team performance tonight. Next Stop: New Orleans.

It's what they should be doing to teams way below 500. It was great seeing our rooks in the game early. Hopefully that boosts up their confidence.

"Nothing to lose"?? How about the post season!? How about their self respect? How about those bandwagon fans? (okay that might be okay)

I think Marco is just glad that he got to play with the first team. The 2nd team always seem to just look for their shots trying to impress Nellie.

I hope Buike and Belinelli will be our boost this season. Though not much a believer of him, I've completely given up on Barnes. I think he's reputation went from a good hustle player to just a thug. Wish he can still give us something but I'd rather see Buike and Beli get more minutes. They're more skilled and has more chance to improve.
