Report: Clippers Pursuing Davis
according to yahoo and its sources, the clippers are trying hard to sign baron davis.
Sources: Clippers pursuing Davis
this is worse news to an already sad day. one eastern conference gm in the article is quoted as saying that hes already got to have a deal somewhere to opt out of his contract, which is even more disheartening. I wonder where he's gonna go now...
Davis’ decision stunned league executives and agents late Monday.
“He has to have some kind of a deal somewhere,” an Eastern Conference general manager said. “You just don’t opt out of that kind of money.”
Davis’ career had been reborn under Don Nelson’s small ball, but acrimony over contract talks have cooled the relationship between the Warriors and him. What’s more, Davis could be facilitating a sign-and-trade between Golden State and Los Angeles, or elsewhere.
The possibility of bringing Davis to the Clippers promises to be a major incentive in re-signing their own free agent, forward Elton Brand.

REPORT: Warriors Sign Mbenga, Waive Lasme
whoa, the warriors just signed former maverick DJ Mbenga and waived Stephane Lasme
The Golden State Warriors have signed free agent center DJ Mbenga to a contract, and waived forward Stephane Lasme, it was announced today by Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations, Chris Mullin. Per team policy, terms of the agreement were not announced.Mbenga (Ben-ga), 27, was not drafted by an NBA team, but was signed as a free agent by the Dallas Mavericks prior to the 2004-05 season.
Mbenga will join the Warriors in New York on Monday and will wear uniform # 28.
Lasme, 24, was selected by the Warriors in the second round of the 2007 NBA Draft (46th overall). He appeared in one regular season game (11/8 vs. Dallas) and did not register a stat line. The 6'8" native of Gabon, Africa appeared in four preseason games with Golden State, averaging 5.0 points, 2.3 rebounds and 2.25 blocked shots in 16.3 minutes.

Righetti Yankees Manager?
The ny daily news, not exactly the world's best news source, lists rags as a possible sleeper candidate for the yankees managerial position. Though i doubt this would actually happen, it is kind of interesting to note.
"Don Mattingly, Joe Girardi and Tony Peña remain the only official candidates for the Yankees' managerial job, but a few more names figure to surface in the coming days as the Bombers expand their search to replace Joe Torre."
"Ex-Yank Dave Righetti, the Giants' pitching coach since 2000, also reportedly has expressed interest in a managerial career, and his Yankees ties could make him an appealing candidate."

756 Ball
The fate of 756 has been revealed.
The ball Barry Bonds hit for his record-breaking 756th home run will be branded with an asterisk and sent to the Baseball Hall of Fame, its owner said Wednesday.Fashion designer Marc Ecko, who bought the ball in an online auction, set up a Web site for fans to vote on the ball's fate, and the decision to brand it won out over the other options, sending it to the museum unblemished or launching it into space.
and what does cooperstown think of this?
"We're happy to get it," he said. "We're a nonprofit history museum, so this ball wouldn't be coming to Cooperstown without Marc Ecko buying it from the fan who caught it."seems like they couldnt care less about there being an asterisk on the ball.

Baron Davis Contract Extension
Apparently Baron Davis' agent and the Warriors are already talking about a contract extension.
QBaron Davis' agent, Todd Ramasar, said he's had initial discussions with vice president Chris Mullin regarding a contract extension for the point guard. Davis is signed for another two years at a total of $37.8 million, but can opt out after next season. "It's in a good place," said Ramasar, who declined to go into specifics. Davis is in France attending the wedding extravaganza of Spurs guard Tony Parker and actress Eva Longoria, and is expected to return to his offseason home in Las Vegas next week.http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2007/07/07/SPG95QSQSH1.DTL

This site makes me chuckle
Still bitter after being "severely power owned" by the warriors, mavs fans apparently think that sjax is a thug and baron davis milks his injuries.
http://www.dallasbasketball.com/home_display.asp
some mavs fans congratulated the dubs for their win, and i commend them for that. yet, some of them are idiots and think that the mavericks beat themselves. that completely explains the warriors winning 8 of the last 10 games against the mavericks

Which candidate are the dubs?
this is a pretty interesting article by Jack McCallum. He compares each of the teams in the playoffs to a democratic presidential candidate
Dallas Mavericks=Hillary ClintonThe target everyone was gunning for from the beginning. No-nonsense and business-like, both candidate and team have a strong male figure behind the throne, one named Bill, one named Mark. As with Hillary, it was the Mavs' to lose ... and they just might lose it.
Golden State Warriors=Mike GravelUnorthodox and even a little scary, both are trying to overcome the odds with offense.
Cool, the warriors can knock of Hillary, she was against grand theft auto, and i love my grand theft auto. on an interesting note, the Pistons are Barack Obama Link: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/writers/jack_mccallum/05/01/playoffs.politics/index.html

No luck for the east coast warriors either
Caron Butler has a broken hand, basically out for the playoffs, and during the Bobcats game, Gerald Wallace went into Arenas' knee. He could be out for the playoffs as well. Not a good time to be a Warriors fan, on both sides of the United States.
He was just standing there, settling into rebounding position as Gerald Wallace drove baseline. When Wallace threw up one of those incredible, off-balance reverse layups, he crashed inadvertently into the left leg of the Washington Wizards' point guard.Down went Agent Zero. And with him, perhaps, the Wizards' hopes of achieving much of anything in the playoffs this season.
