Because of the Bobcats' surplus of power forwards, including Othella Harrington, Emeka Okafor, Sean May and the aforementioned Hermann, the Warriors may be able to swoop in and get a hold of Ely, who has the abilities that the Warriors currently lack... But the most important reason Warriors' fans should be hoping this deal gets done? A trade with the Bobcats also will give the Warriors an opportunity to rid themselves of one of their big contracts... |
As Bhattacharya notes the Bobcats are still under the league minimum for overall team salary, so this seems fairly plausible. If the Warriors do make a sign and trade for Melvin Ely look for it to happen by tomorrow. As always we'll keep you updated. Training camp starts in just a few weeks, but it's great to see the Warriors still trying to be active even if they're minor, low-risk/high-reward moves. Last summer and last season the Warriors were quieter than a Charlotte Hornets game when it came to upgrading their roster with trades and free agent acquisitions.
