Golden State of Mind: Brainstorm

Recently, I've been seeing comments on front page articles regarding this blog going downhill due to writer issues or layout problems. I think the complaints are somewhat merited but I would like to write down some thoughts to improve community and fanbase involvement on the site and make this blog that much stronger. Everyday after I get off work or classes at my college (senior) I literally get home, go on my computer and hit up GSOM; not even a joke. This has been my favorite blog since We Believe and I keep coming because of the passion that the writers bring everyday to keep this team's fanbase interested and engaged. I want to say right now, that if guys like Evanz, Atma, Nate, OM, and many more didn't write all these articles (even on the off season), I dare say that being a GSW fan wouldn't be as much fun.

But what I will say is I am a little underwhelmed by our fanpost and fanshots pages. Those are some of the most fun to scour purely because I like getting team input from the average joe or jane, even if it isn't professional quality, it at least makes me think on my feet about various Dubs issues. I appreciate all posts that people put up even if I haven't commented on them because it's something to read and enjoy. I would like to encourage these fans to continue posting and bring that sense of community back. We may not all be in agreement about issues regarding GSW, but we do have one thing in common, we are all loyal fans to a team that has been rebuilding since the 1990s and continue to show love to this Oakland team no matter who we are or where we are from.

I would like to brainstorm a few ideas to promote further community involvement and hope that in your comments, the rest of you do the same. My overall goal of course is to make this blog stronger and more accessible, I hope it will be yours to:

_______________

1) I thoroughly miss being able to access fanshots/posts from the front page. I've seen a few people comment on how these portions of the blog aren't as accessible or aren't as posted. I feel that this is the case due to lack of incentive. If your writing isn't seen, then why even write it? Why not keep a journal or a diary for yourself? To get fans to post more often, I suggest that we should look at our fan posts/shots every week, pick the best one that really reflects GSW values and writers professionalism and post it to the front page. That fan will be rewarded for posting and engaging other fans by gaining exposure and there will be more community involvement overall.

2) My next brainstorm would be to put on a contest every month of the regular season to win a ticket or two to the games. Financing for this activity would be a different story, but I wouldn't mind putting in a few dollars for community involvement! What these contests will be is up to the admins, but a few ideas I would have are trivia, cool graphics and images, and whatever else people could think of. I admit my creativity is shot this morning so hopefully posters will add more in comments.

3) Weekly posts on game situations, issues, and improvements you think can be made with coaching, players, Front Office, etc. People love having their voices heard and I think this blog can do with just general posts people can comment on and express opinions.

4) More exposure and bio's from admins. I have read so many articles from my admins but don't know jack about them. I don't know what they do occupationally, what their names are, what their favorite foods are, and I feel like it'd be nice to do so. If readers can get to know their admins, they can connect more with them and maybe become more engaged in the blog as a whole. We as GSW fans should be a happy family due to our commonalities and those should be expressed.

That's it for now, please add more in comments if you would like. Let's make this blog stronger and continue rooting for our favorite team!
