Warriors vs. Magic: Postgame Interviews (12/3/12) by Warriors
Mark Jackson
On the loss:
“They were the more aggressive team. They outworked us; we haven’t been outworked in a long time. They were the more physical team. When you look at 41points: 23 off of our turnovers and 18 from second chance points -you can’t gift a team 41 points. Just a disappointing loss, but we’ll learn from it and get better. Look forward to going on the road, but certainly we didn’t play our brand of basketball.”
On Matching Orlando's Energy:
“You’re going to have nights where a team is a step faster, and nights where you are a step faster. Tonight, we were a step behind; step slow. With that being said, they were the more physical team; not just on the boards but setting screens, and the pacing of their offense. We just didn’t have it and we’re not going to accept that. They won the ball game, give them credit. They were coming off of a big win last night and didn’t sit on it. They came in here and won a ballgame, they didn’t steal it they won it. Now, how are we going to respond? I know our history says that we will learn from our mistakes, now we have to do that with tonight’s game.”
On Not Being Able to Get a Win Before The Road Trip:
“We are a young basketball team. We are going to learn valuable lessons throughout the season, in wins and in losses. When you look at the Denver loss, it was frustrating, but it was something that we had to go through in order to put ourselves in position to be in first place. We’re not going to be satisfied with making mistakes, but we’re going to demand that we get better. This loss is going to sting and we will improve because of it.”
On Their Defense Against JJ Reddick:
“Our defense in general, and any good defensive team, it’s not just one guy defending him. He has primary responsibilities to force him one way, to stay connected to his body which is a tough task as fast as he was moving; he’s been doing that his whole life. What makes that play work defensively is ball pressure and the man setting the screen to stunt or jab at JJ Reddick once he catches the ball. It’s basic defense. Anytime during that stretch I could have showed it to you and we would have saw two or three guys not fulfilling their responsibilities.”
Stephen Curry
On Effort:
“They had a little more pace to them, a little more aggressiveness. I think for the most part they were the hardest working team and that’s kind of what we hang our hat on night in and night out. We’ve said all along that we’re not the most talented team and don’t have top five players in the league, so the way you can consistently win in this league is outworking guys in the paint, transition, defensively; we didn’t do any of that today.”
David Lee
On the Game:
“They were strong inside; they did a good job from the start of establishing that. Heck, we had to fight just to even up the boards at the end. Give them credit; they came out and they were the aggressors, and that’s something we’ve been during our games that we’ve won. We looked like we were the team that played on a back-to-back and they came out with more energy, and they beat us at all five positions.”
On Two Home Games Against the Nuggets This Year:
“We had a great home crowd tonight and we were on a good winning streak, playing very good ball. There’ s no excuse for what happened. I think the thought in the locker room is we’re really disappointed we let one slip away here, just because every game is so valuable. Going on a long road trip here, we just wish we could have that one back.”
Klay Thompson
On the Upcoming Roadtrip:
“All we can do from here is look ahead, because we’ve got a long road trip ahead of us and we want to come out with a winning record. There’s some really good teams we are playing; it’s going to be a good test for us. It’s the longest trip of the year and you can’t dwell on anything in the past because it’s going to linger in the future. So we’ve just got to look ahead; we’ve played well up to this point except for tonight, so we’ve just got to look ahead.”
On his Personal Performace:
“I didn’t play very well at all. Like I said, they played very well. I had a few turnovers, took some bad shots, forced some bad shots. You learn from it. I’ve finally played a full season, so I’m still fresh in this league and I’m learning every game. So I feel like I can only get better from here; put this one behind me and try to redeem myself Wednesday night.”
