Golden State Warriors 87, Memphis Grizzlies 94 Recap: Big bad bears beat up Dubs

A very good basketball team came into Roaracle and beat up the Warriors with their bigs. So... think they'd be interested in handing over Rudy Gay?

Grizzlies in the Paint

Well, that was no fun. Minus Andrew Bogut, the Warriors are (as you all know) susceptible to some big outings from opposing bigs. There's not too much they can really do about it aside from pushing the pace and getting the opposing big men tired. In the long run, Festus Ezeli might grown into a big man that can hold down the fort, but he's a rookie playing bigger minutes than anyone would have ever expected. Andris Biedrins? Please.

Zach Randolph, Marc Gasol, and Marreese Speights controlled the boards with 27 rebounds. Randolph got 19 points on only 13 attempts which didn't make things easy. He's had an interesting and at times volatile career trajectory across the Portland Trail Blazers, New York Kinicks, LA Clippers, and now Memphis Grizzlies. Unfortunately for the Western Conference Z-Bo is quite legit with his post moves, excellent footwork, and rebounding.

The most telling stat of the night for the Warriors was the Points in the Paint:

Warriors 34, Grizzlies 60

It's tough to win against a top Western Conference squad when that happens.

Bogut! Bogut! Bogut! (We can only hope.)

Trade for Rudy!

The rumor that has made it's way around the Bay is that the Warriors have had discussions about Rudy Gay.

See: Thompson: Golden State Warriors, Memphis Grizzlies had discussions about Rudy Gay

I used to have a saying: 99% of rumors never happen, but 99% of them are fun to talk about!

Gay to the Bay will probably never happen, but it's fun to think about.

If I were the Warriors I'd make a bold decision and offer Harrison Barnes, Klay Thompson, and Andris Biedrins [Trade Machine] and see if they'd bite. The Warriors are in win now mode and this helps them win now.

Surely the Grizzlies can convince Biedrins to opt out of his $9 million after this season, right?* That would enable the Grizzlies to cut some payroll and get some youth with nice upside.

That would also enable the Warriors to trot out this lineup:

PG: Stephen Curry

SG: Jarrett Jack

SF: Rudy Gay

PF: David Lee

C: Andrew Bogut (?)

Bench: Festus Ezeli, Carl Landry, Charles Jankins

Let's do it!

Warrior Wonder

I'll let you take your pick in the poll:

  • Klay Thompson's 20-7-7
  • Stephen Curry's 24-4-4 with 4 treys
  • David Lee hanging tough with the big bad Grizzlies and notching another double-double?

* Hey, anything can happen.
