Warriors vs. Grizzlies: Postgame Interviews (1/9/13) by Warriors
Mark Jackson
On their matchups against the Grizzlies' frontcourt:
“I thought early on we had a tough time, not just our bigs, but overall in the first half. They were more physical than us, they imposed their will on us, we were out of sync and we had a tough time – not just with their bigs. It was a disappointing half. I thought we really responded in the second half. They scored 39 points in the second half. We battled and we made some tough plays. Down the stretch it was a two point ball game and we turned it over – careless mistake. Another two point ballgame and we get a duck-in by Festus (Ezeli) - I’d much rather him coming out setting a pick on the ball, but no matter what he got a good look. Rudy Gay hit a tough one in the corner. I thought we did not seal off our possessions defensively. Down the stretch they got some offensive rebounds that really hurt us. That’s a basketball team. You play them you are going to get better. They execute you to death and playing them will force you to get better.”

On going with Festus Ezeli and Andris Biedrins late in the game:
“They were getting great position on the block. They were posting up (Marc) Gasol, they were posting up Zach (Randolph) and they were hurting us. I just made the move to get two bigger bodies on them defensively. They were hurting us on the boards. When we are at our best, our perimeter guys are getting in there and rebounding the basketball. We just didn’t rebound. That’s on the bigs, but that’s also on the small guys as well.”

On his thoughts about going to a zone defense:
“I was thinking about it, but at the same time they countered with shooters. Tony Allen really didn’t play too much down the stretch, the zone basically attempted to take him out of the ballgame. They had, basically, four or five guys out there that could shoot the ball. We didn’t want to give them a steady diet of it. It was very effective and it did work. I thought our man-to-man defense did a good job down the stretch – we just didn’t rebound the way that we have been rebounding all season long. They hurt us on the offensive rebounds.”
Stephen Curry
On the matchup versus Memphis:
“They are a good team, a veteran team who has a lot of experience in the playoffs and grinding out games. They pretty much have the same unit back that they have had in the past two or three seasons. You have to play a whole 48 minute game, a smart efficient 48 minute game to beat them at home or on the road. They know how to play together. You have to give credit to them; they did what they had to do to win.”

On losing consecutive games:
“We played two teams who we are trying to chase. Two teams who are right there in front of us in the standings who we understand have been playing great basketball just like we have. There is no need to panic especially with the month we have coming with the teams coming and the teams on the road. We just have to keep grinding and play 48 minutes. It’s a disappointing loss tonight but I thought we played well but didn’t make enough plays down the stretch.”
David Lee
On tonight's game:
“I think the first half is where we lost the game. Getting down like we did, being down nine at half, usually if we are tied or up at the half we’re in pretty good shape. I thought we did a much better job defensively in the second half. They got comfortable in the first half and that helped them rhythm wise.”

On losing consecutive games:
“Against two very good teams, at the Clippers which a lot of people are saying is the best team in the league and versus Memphis here at home who’s playing very good basketball as well. No matter what it’s frustrating because we expect to win every game we play but we have to bounce back here against Portland in a few days and regroup. I’m proud of our guys’ effort but we just came up short.”

Notes

- No interesting notes tonight.

What's next?

- Did you know the Blazers are above .500? Yep, 19-15. Oakland native Damian Lillard is doing a bunch of scoring, looking for rookie of the year. Gotta win this to avoid the 3 game losing streak.
