Matt Steinmetz on the Warriors and trade deadline.
(in the morning)
MSteinmetzCSN: It's possible things could get worse for the Warriors before they get better. They've lost five in a row, and now
they play at Utah on Tuesday to start the second half. After that, it's a home game against the Suns. Then, things get very tricky again for them. After a home game against San Antonio, the Warriors go on their last extended road trip of the season -- a five-game trip that will take them to Minnesota, Indiana, New York, Boston and Philly. Right now the Warriors are 30-22. It's not outside the realm of possibility the Warriors could slip to just five or six games over .500. But even if that's the case, no time to worry. After that, the Warriors finish with 16 of 22 at Oracle.

Warriors at Jazz: Postgame Interviews (2/19/13) by Warriors
Mark Jackson
On tonight's game:
"They outworked us. Once again, defensively we were not sharp. We didn’t take care of the basketball instretches. It is another uncharacteristic performance by us and we have to find ourselves."
On shaking things up:
"I am not going to jump off this ship, I believe in my guys. One thing that will take place is guys are going to playfor their minutes. We have lost six in a row and haven’t played good basketball and I have been extremelypatient. I love my guys and I believe in them but we have got to find five guys on the floor that are going toscratch, claw and compete because history tells me that the only way out of a funk like this is working our wayout of it. We aren’t going to cool our way out of this thing."
Andrew Bogut
On the team's defensive struggles:
"Small little breakdowns; each person does something different. It’s not always one guy or two guys…it’s hard to pinpoint the problem right now. I think collectively it’s not going as well as it was."
On if it's time to make adjustments:
"I think it is. That’s up to (Head Coach Mark Jackson). We have guys in and out, but obviously we are searching for something. Whatever he thinks works, we have his back."
David Lee
On if defense is the team's main concern moving forward:
"Yes, no question. (The Jazz) scored over 100 points tonight. That’s enough to get a win. We got back on theboards tonight and outrebounded them by seven, so that wasn’t much of a concern tonight, but it was reallykind of the same issues we’ve been having – too many turnovers and not playing overall defense like we wereearlier."
On what's causing the defensive miscues:
"That’s what is most frustrating – you can’t just point to one thing. It’s a little bit of everything and a little bit ofeverybody. It seems like each time down the court it’s just a minor mistake by one guy, then another mistake byanother guy. Then there are times where guys just hit tough shots. You add all that together and you give upanother 115 points and lose another game."
On if it's time to make adjustments:
"That’s up to (Head Coach Mark Jackson). The most important thing is that we win. Whatever Coach decides todo, we’ve been with him all season and that’s not going to change. I trust that he’ll make the right decision, whatever that might be."
Interesting Tweets
(after the game)
MSteinmetzCSN: When it comes to the Warriors making the playoffs, the Jazz and Rockets are irrelevant when it comes to GSW
The teams the Warriors have to be concerned with are the Trail Blazers and the Lakers. If the Warriors fall behind Utah and Houston, they're still the No. 8 team, and therefore a playoff team. But if Portland or the Lakers rally and pass the Warriors, then we're talking about a GSW collapse and missing the playoffs completely. The Warriors are still well ahead of Portland (5 games) and the Lakers (5.5 games). If the Warriors finish eighth in the conference, it will have been a successful season. That's why it might be more worthwhile keeping an eye on Portland and the Lakers.
(after the game, more locker room quotes. Some are similar to the warriors.com quotes above.)
gswscribe: MJax ready to shake things up. Bogut 'fesses up to his suckage. Curry tired of talking. Best of what they said...
MARK JACKSON
Q: Think its time to shake things up?
“We’ll shakes some things up. I’m not going to jump off this ship. I believe in my guys. But one thing that will take place is guys are going to play for their minutes. We’ve lost six in a row. We haven’t played good basketball. And I’ve been extremely patient. I love my guys. I believe in them. But we’ve got to find five guys on the floor that’s going to scratch, claw, compete. Because history tells, me, I’ve been part of it, the only way out of a funk like this is working your way out of it. We’re not going to cool our way out of this thing. We’re going to be fine, but we’ve got to stop the bleeding.”
Q: Is there something specific you’re looking for out of your players?
“We’ve got to play better. Energy. Effort. Commitment. Defending. The things that put us in position to be a very good basketball team. Were not doing that right now. And I’m getting tired of ‘my bad.’ So we’ve got to find a way to stop it.”
DAVID LEE
Q: Is defense the most concerning thing?
“NO question. We scored over 100 points tonight. That’s enough to get a win. We got back on the boards tonight. outrebounded them by seven, so that wasn’t as much of a concern tonight. But it was really kind of the same issues we’ve been having. Too many turnovers and not playing overall defense like we were earlier.”
Q: Is there something specifically going wrong?
“That’s what’s most frustrating. I don’t think you can point to one thing. It’s a little bit of everything and it’s a little bit of everybody. It seems each time down court, its just a minor mistake by one guy and another mistake by a different guy … then there are other times where guys just hit tough shots. So you Add that all together and you give up another 115 points and lose another game.”
ANDREW BOGUT
Q: Coach said you weren’t moving well out there. You feel that way? “No. I was out there. … I had a bad night personally. I just played like s#@$. Festus and Biedrins didn’t do a bad job tonight.”
Q: Can you pinpoint what’s wrong with the defense?
“I think that’s probably the toughest thing to pinpoint. It’s not always one guy or two guys. It’s kind of a collective thing. Its hard to pinpoint the problem right now. I think collectively our defense is not going as well as it was. And then we turn the ball over and the rest goes as it did tonight.”
Notes
- No interesting notes tonight.
What's next?
- The Suns are currently beating the Blazers in Portland. So... our chance for breaking this losing streak comes down to hoping that the Suns feel good about themselves and forget to show up. Yeah, nice.
