There has been plenty of discussion about Golden State Warriors All Star power forward David Lee around here, but where does he rank among the other power forwards in the league?
Coach Nick of BBall Breakdown doesn't give you the answer to that, but provides some statistics and video clips to compare Lee to Portland Trailblazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, Miami Heat forward Chris Bosh, Los Angeles Clippers forward Blake Griffin, and Memphis Grizzlies forward Zach Randolph.
His analysis focuses heavily on each player's scoring ability, but I think it's worth looking at the rebounding numbers as well (via Hoopdata).
Player | Oreb% | PF Rank (10+ mins) | League Rank |
Aldridge | 6.8 | 57 | 126 |
Bosh | 7.6 | N/A | 101 |
Griffin | 7.1 | 51 | 112 |
Lee | 8.6 | 34 | 76 |
Randolph | 14.4 | 3 | 11 |
Averages | 8.4% | 5.3% |
Offensive rebounding rates and ranks (via Hoopdata). Bosh is listed as a C, thus unranked among PFs.
There's also the matter of the defensive side of the ball, which the breakdown doesn't address at all though I'm sure Warriors fans will find that hard to ignore when discussing Lee.
We could also debate the limitations of these positional designations (e.g. Bosh technically plays "center" for the Heat, but would indeed be considered a "power forward" by most) or whether other people should be included in the discussion (he acknowledges Kevin Love and explains why he left him out). But let's go with this list for now and ask a GSoM specific question: where does David Lee rank among this group of power forwards?
Voice your opinion in the YouTube comments of the video above to participate in Bball Breakdown's poll.
