Warriors vs. Jazz: Postgame Interviews (4/7/13) by Warriors
Mark Jackson
On tonight's game:
"I think they outplayed us. They played like a team that their playoff lives depended on this game. We played, at times, like a team that had a cushion. I think that was the bottom line. The second quarter really hurt us. If you take away that second quarter, where they scored 32 points, and we were careless with the basketball and they had their way – we win the ballgame. That’s the disappointing part about it. Give them credit they outplayed us."
On Stephen Curry the final three quarters:
"We went away from him a little bit. Klay (Thompson) and David (Lee) got it going. Give credit to their defense, they put bigger bodies on him. At the end of the day, he cooled down a little bit and their defense stepped up. They made the adjustment and they started trapping trying to get the ball out of his hands."
On the usage of Draymond Green late in the game:
"They were hurting us in pick-and-rolls. Our best, big defender was on the floor as far as defending the pick-and-roll. He was able to either switch or get the ball out of the point guard’s hands and get back to his. Just trying to give us a chance to get stops."
On if he worries about a player coming in cold off the bench:
"It doesn’t matter. He (Draymond Green) is a big time defender that understands the principles and I have no problem putting him in the ballgame. He displayed what we needed."
On if he was concerned about the team's level of urgency:
"No, that’s a big physical basketball team. They hurt you by throwing a lot of big bodies at you, they hurt you with posting you up and they wear on you. They outplayed us. They are a good team. I’m not concerned at all. Other than the second quarter, we put together 36 minutes of good basketball. That second quarter was not like us and we lost the game because of it."
On if he thought his team was competitive enough:
"We didn’t put together 48 minutes of our brand of basketball. Twelve minutes in the second quarter hurt us and cost us this game and also cost us the opportunity to celebrate having an “X” next to our name. That’s unacceptable. We are fully aware of that, we are disappointed and now we move on. I thought the second quarter was the big difference in the ball game. It hurt us."
Jarrett Jack
On tonight's game:
"We definitely didn’t put forth the effort like a team that had a sense of urgency behind it. They played hard, give them credit. They came in our building and hit us first. We just couldn’t seem to get a rhythm to the game for whatever reason."
On if the team is concerned:
"No. It happens, but we’ve definitely got to know that any opportunities to clinch you can’t take them for granted. We’ve got to seize the moment, so to speak. We have another opportunity Tuesday. This can’t go unnoticed, this can’t go on anymore."
David Lee
On missing an opportunity to clinch a playoff spot:
"I’ve been waiting eight years for a night like tonight to have a chance to clinch and make the playoffs. It’s going to happen another night. We’re going to keep our heads up but it was disappointing to lose this one."
On the team's effort:
"I thought we were out there playing really hard. I know that’s the message Coach Jackson said to us after the game, I’ll have to watch the film on that. I don’t think it was a case of effort. I think at times we didn’t execute as well as we needed to. Give them credit, they played well. We didn’t play well enough."
On if the game had a playoff feel:
"The fastbreak points were even, so basically it came down to a half court game. I just don’t think we played our best tonight, but we have another game and we’ll move on to the next one. Obviously these are very important."
Stephen Curry
On not clinching:
"It sucks. I mean, you have a chance to protect your home court again. We’ve been playing good basketball leading up to where we’re trying to go. We understand we have control of the situation and didn’t get it done. We’ve got to figure out what lesson to get out of this and get back to it on Tuesday and keep pushing."
On if the team felt like it was playing with a cushion:
"No. If you look at it they played a little harder. That’s not how we’re going to be successful if a team plays harder than us the way they played against us. That’s what we rely on game in, game out. I don’t know how to answer that, we’ve got to get to the next game."
Notes
- No interesting notes tonight.
What's next?
- Our Magic number is still at 2, so we can guarantee ourselves a playoff spot if we, at the very least, beat the TWolves and the Blazers. So, no screwing around, no playing down to the competition on Tues, OK???
