Golden State Warriors sign G Scott Machado to 10-day contract

The Golden State Warriors made a move to fill out the roster, signing point guard Scott Machado to a 10-day contract. With the season so close to over, he'll remain on the roster for the rest of the regular season.

Not too surprising or anything crazy. On a day the Warriors can clinch a playoff berth, they sign Machado for ten days, effectively putting him on the roster for the rest of the season (last game against the Portland Trail Blazers on April 17th).

But don't look for him to make the playoff roster at this point. Remember, the roster only includes 12 players and it's likely the Warriors will drop Machado and Brandon Rush from the active roster when the time comes.

It's hard to know whether the Warriors did this to alleviate the heavy minutes on Stephen Curry or just another body for the Dubs' practice squad.

But that doesn't take away from the fact that Machado can play a little bit. He was picked up by the Houston Rockets and was on the big-league roster for a couple games before the Warriors traded a D-League pick for him. He was the MAAC Player of the Year in college and led the nation in assists. A great stat when you realize Kendall Marshall also played that year with players like John Henson, our own Harrison Barnes and Tyler Zeller on a stacked North Carolina squad.

Machado has played 10 games for Santa Cruz and averaged 6.5 points, 3.4 assists and 1.8 rebounds in 15 minutes. He did score 22 points on 7-15 shooting last night but he projects to be a pass-first guard at the next level.

With Jarrett Jack playing his way out of the Warriors' price range next season, is Machado the answer at the backup guard position? Keep in mind the Warriors first rounder goes to the Utah Jazz as well so they won't have a first-round draft pick.
