ESPN Summer Forecast: Did the Warriors make the playoffs?

New, comments

The Golden State Warriors are projected by ESPN to finish the upcoming season 50-32. The panel includes experts like Henry Abbott, Tom Haberstroh and every other Truehoop guy you can think of.

In ranking the Warriors the sixth-best team myself in the SBNation Power Rankings a couple weeks ago, I'm tempted to agree that 50 seems like the perfect number for a team on the cusp of becoming postseason fixtures. Perhaps the most striking aspect of this is the volatility with which the Warriors might possess.

The Memphis Grizzlies and San Antonio Spurs are who they are, talented, veteran-laden teams that will hover around 50 wins. The Oklahoma City Thunder and Los Angeles Clippers are similar but offer more potential with players like Blake Griffin and Kevin Durant with room still to grow. The Warriors are probably a tier below, in terms of system and talent but have the potential to leap into that group with a perfect storm of health and systemic changes.

What do you guys think? Does 50 games mean the season is a success? Or is the Conference Finals the only thing you care about?
