- Postgame quotes and stuff from warriors.com recap:
On the first half:
“We had breakdowns defensively, but they have guys that can score the basketball. When they get it going they are as good as anybody in the league at their position offensively. That second quarter hurt us. When you think about giving up 34 points in the second quarter and 33 in the second half. We got back to who we are, but that second quarter cost us the game. Disappointing.”
On why he thought they were unable to complete the comeback:
“We missed shots. We missed some free throws and we missed some wide open looks. That’s what happens when you put yourself in that position to have to make plays down the stretch. This game should have been won early by the way we started and set the tone. We gave them life. I don’t care who you are you are not always going to make plays down the stretch. Even the last play Steph (Stephen Curry) gets an open look and pump fakes and (Raymond) Felton gets back into the picture. The second quarter cost us the game. We dug ourselves a hole and credit to our guys we responded in the second half, but it was very uncharacteristic of us.”
On if he thought they got good looks despite shooting 35 percent:
“We got good looks. We missed some open threes, missed some drives. Steph (Stephen Curry) missed some shots; Klay (Thompson) missed some shots. You are going to make or miss shots, what caused us the game was giving up 34 points in the second quarter. That’s not our brand of defense. ”
On the upcoming road trip to Dallas and San Antonio:
“They are important. Playing against two good basketball teams. Every game is important for us. Two tough teams, two talented teams and two teams playing for something. We will regroup and look forward to taking care of business on the road.”
On playing to the level of their competition:
“I think we have lost some games to teams that we are better than. You look around this league Phoenix is down big to the Lakers in a must win situation. We’ve seen Dallas lose games-the only team that really has handled their business consistently has been the Spurs. They have separated themselves and that’s why they are the best in the business. We are developing and we certainly own the fact that we have lost some games that we should’ve won. When you look on that floor that is a more than capable New York team that has underachieved this year, but they have talent. Carmelo Anthony in the middle of the lineup can make it interesting against anybody.”
On what he felt went wrong on the defensive end in the second quarter:
“I’m not a guy where the numbers tell the results. I thought our bench came in and didn’t have the same impact. Even though the game was still close the tone had been set by the second unit and It hurt us. Offensively, defensively they got a rhythm and they closed out the half. Ultimately I think that’s what it was.”
On the final offensive possession:
“I turned around thinking I could probably shoot over the top of him and then I saw two guys in front of me. I haven’t seen the clip or anything. My read was I saw two guys and knew we had five seconds left so there was time to get a pass off. It was necessary. I just threw it a little bit too hard at Draymond. If I could do it over I would probably just try to find a way to shoot it regardless. I thought I’d make the right play and just didn’t connect. It was a tough way to end it.”
On not getting too high or low:
“Any loss in the end of March and April is tough. We’ve got to keep our heads up. We always say don’t get too down on nights like this when you still have 10 games to play to continue to figure it out. We didn’t get too high after the game on Friday against Memphis. Confidence is still high in this locker room. We didn’t plan on losing this game but great opportunity to go get two on the road against two good teams that are both still playing for something, obviously, at this point in the season. We’ve got to get our mojo back for Tuesday and Wednesday.”
On the game:
“It was a tough game all around. I felt like I didn’t play well at either end. It’s a tough one to swallow but we’ve just got to get to Dallas with our heads high and play with a sense of urgency and some confidence.”
On relying too much on Stephen Curry offensively:
“It was an ugly game on the offensive end for us; put too much pressure on Steph [Curry]. He came through like he always does, but that’s on us to make it easier on him—hit a few more shots, make a few more plays.”
On the game:
“The second quarter definitely hurt us. We battled all the way back. I still like the way we fought. WE fought until the end and we actually did the necessary things it takes to win. We held them to I think 87 or 89 points or whatever it was. We should usually win in games like that. We missed some shots. At the end of the day we’re a no excuse basketball team and we’ve got to still find a way to come up with a win, especially at this point in the season. We’ve got to do whatever it takes. We fought and we’ll be fine.”
“It was definitely physical playing against Amar’e [Stoudemire] and Tyson [Chandler]. They are always banging and crashing the boards. You guard Melo (Carmelo Anthony) he tries to abuse you offensively. It was a very physical game being that I was matched up with guys bigger than me. I never mind that; I like the challenge.”
- Andrew Bogut DNP due to the pelvic/groin contusion. He most likely won't play during the 2-game Texas road trip.
- David Lee DNP due to the hamstring. According to Mark Jackson's pregame interview, David Lee still can't run right now.
- We have a short 2-game back-to-back road trip in Texas. The best chance for a win will be the first game against the Mavericks. But if we don't have David Lee and/or Andrew Bogut, we're possibly looking at a 3 game losing streak (including tonight's loss) by the time we get back home.
