Mark Jackson
On the end of the game:
“We got what we wanted when Steph (Stephen Curry) got in the lane and made a heck of a play. Defensively, I thought Draymond (Green) did a very good job forcing him into a tough shot. You don’t want to lose the ballgame in those situations. They killed us on the offensive boards and they outworked us. You get a team to shoot 37 percent from the field taking 104 shots and they get 25 offensive rebounds-just disappointing. It’s the responsibility of our bigs, but it’s on everybody because when we are at our best our perimeter guys are getting in there and rebounding the basketball. We did a poor job collectively. You think about the way that (Kenneth) Faried and (Timofey) Mosgov dominated the boards.”
On when the game was slipping away:
“The next step for us is putting teams away. We had them. We started giving away one possession, started giving away a rebound or a turnover or a bad shot or selfish play and you look up and a 20 point game becomes a 10 point game and a 10 point game becomes a 2 point game and then you have to win the game twice. Fortunately for us we did that, but then we gave it back. Just unfortunate.”
On the end of the second half:
“We got careless. We started feeling good about ourselves and got out of character. 25 offensive rebounds, you get a team to shoot 37 percent from the field-that says a lot about our defense, but they got extra shots because of offensive rebounds. It hurt us. The disappointing point for us is that with a 20 point lead we began to get out of character. Bad shots, bad plays, taking plays off and all of sudden you give them life. I don’t care, anybody in this league if you give them life there will be a price to pay and for us we lost.”
On if he is concerned about being inconsistent:
“I won’t co-sign that. We lost a ballgame. I won’t say that the Houston Rockets are inconsistent with their focus; they lost to the Nuggets last night. (Kenneth) Faried and (Timofey) Mosgov) hurt us and we didn’t play well. We made mistakes. We lost a ballgame; I’m not concerned because it’s part of the process. You talk about the Spurs in a game that they don’t have to win and they went into Dallas-a team that is at home and is supposed to be playing with a sense of urgency and the Spurs win. It’s a mentality. They just didn’t get it over night. That’s the next step for us.”
On the heavy usage from the bench tonight:
“We got out of character and the reason was that we were not playing our brand of basketball. You don’t have license to play just because you are a starter when you are not getting the job done.”
Stephen Curry
On what changed in the game after the quick start:
“I don’t really know. The energy, we felt was there, but plays weren’t clicking like we wanted to. They were really just outrebounding us, all the way around. We tried to help the bigs out. They were crashing every possession, on both ends, and when you get outrebounded like you did tonight, no matter what percentage you shoot or they shoot, if they get more opportunities, it’s going to be tough t overcome. Obviously, we had a chance down the stretch; it’s just not a good effort on the boards as a team, so I’m disappointed.”
On missing the chance to clinch in front of the home crowd:
“There are a lot of reasons why this is terrible feeling in the locker room. We could have taken care of a playoff spot, taken care of home court like we need to, going forward, in the playoffs. I don’t know if I’d call it a setback, but it’s definitely not how we envisioned the night going. It’s frustrating, but the thing is, tonight we started five in seven nights so we have to figure out how to shake this one off for tomorrow.”
On if he felt the team was over losses like this:
“Yeah, I feel like we learned our lesson and regardless if you’re not hitting shots, playing with the energy that you need and controlling the paint and being physical. We waited too long to try to change the way that was going down low tonight and once they see the light, they crash the ball. It’s tough to stop them. It’s just an unfortunate night.”
Draymond Green
On the game:
“It’s very frustrating, especially being in the position to clinch. To drop this one, especially at home, is very frustrating. To get manhandled like that on the boards, is frustrating as well, and I take a lot of credit for that, having two rebounds. That’s unacceptable.”
On if there's a problem with the team's focus:
“I don’t think there’s anything wrong with the team’s focus. Nobody was complaining about our focus the last two games when we punched everybody by 40. We got up 20, took our foot off the gas pedal and when you’re playing against a team like that, who doesn’t necessarily have the best shot selection, and nothing to lose, and those shots start falling, you’re in for a long night. We had a chance to put them away and we didn’t and they came back to bite us.”
On Nuggets not quitting:
“When we went up 20, we came down and turned the ball over and they cut it to 17. You may not look at that like a big deal, but if you start getting that lead up, teams start to quit. We didn’t make the necessary plays, and like I said, they’re a team who’s not holding anything back. They’re going to take shots, some crazy shots, but all of a sudden those shots start falling and like I said, you’re in for a night. We had the chance to put the game away, but we didn’t and it came back to bite us.”
Notes
- Smashing your furniture to pieces may give you some relief.
What's next?
- The Warriors better come out pissed tomorrow and ready to destroy the Lakers. Otherwise, they didn't learn anything.
