Nick Nurse, Andy Greer among candidates for Steve Kerr's assistant coaches

Yahoo's Adrian Wojnarowski is hearing that former D-League coach Nick Nurse is among the candidates for Steve Kerr's staff of assistants.

Yahoo's Adrian Wojnarowski tweeted that Chicago Bulls assistant Andy Greer and Toronto Raptors assistant Nick Nurse are among the candidates to fill spots on Steve Kerr's staff as assistant coaches.

Santa Cruz Warriors fans may remember Nurse as coach of the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, which beat Santa Cruz in the 2013 NBA D-League Finals. As described prior to Nurse officially getting the Raptors job last year by Keith Schlosser of SB Nation's Ridiculous Upside, that title capped a successful career in the NBA's developmental ranks that helped land him a NBA job.

...perhaps there's arguably no one more deserving than Rio Grande Valley Vipers coach Nick Nurse. Fresh off leading RGV to the D-League championship, Nurse is now expected to receive an NBA gig once and for all. This past season, he proved himself ready by leading the Vipers to the title while at the same time, helping his team overcome a collection of injuries, call-up departures, trades, and other adversities...Nurse is clearly someone who knows how to manage younger personalities. He knows how to motivate them and keep their spirits up when things get tough. He's a good coach to put in place when you're a team trying to turn things around and figure things out.

Just yesterday, Schlosser mentioned Nurse's promotion again as part of a potential trend of D-League coaches earning promotions to the NBA. Among those who might eventually find themselves on the NBA radar: Casey Hill, current Santa Cruz coach and son of long-time NBA coach Bob Hill.

Greer is also reportedly a candidate for a coaching job with the Utah Jazz, according to Mike Sorensen of the Deseret News.
