Ethan Sherwood Strauss on why the Warriors kept Klay

The ESPN Truehoop writer takes a crack at the question we're all wondering about.

Kelvin Kuo-USA TODAY Sports

I mentioned this in the comments to a previous article, but it's probably worth sharing on it's own.

Today ESPN's Ethan Sherwood Strauss dove into the question of why the Warriors might prefer Klay Thompson to Kevin Love. The whole article is worth reading in its entirely, and Strauss apparently spoke with several members of the Warriors brass.

Some key takeaways:

In what sounds to me like a denial of the memes about which person in the front office wanted what, Strauss quotes Lacob as saying, "Only we know all the details of such discussions that may or may not have occurred."

Jerry West is apparently really unhappy about how little passing the Warriors did last year.

The Warriors brass is very high on Klay's defense, despite the various on/off court numbers being less enthusiastic.

And there's a lot of great information about Klay's competitiveness and attitude, which might serve as a useful counterbalance to the perception that he doesn't really care about anything.

This article is a good example of Strauss at his best: using his access to get inside information, and distilling it down with a solid dose of critical thinking and analysis. I strongly encourage everyone to go and read the whole thing.

We may never know the whole story, and will undoubtably never be done with speculation of dubious value. But Strauss has provided us with some good info. Go check it out, and come back to discuss!
