The Golden State Warriors set a new record for consecutive wins to open a season with their win tonight over the L.A. Lakers.
The Warriors improved to 16-0 with their win — it's a mark no team in NBA history has achieved, further validating the feeling that we're watching not only a dominant, fun, and remarkably unselfish team but also something special that is almost entirely without precedent.
Nobody has even reached 15 wins in the last 20 years since the 1993-94 Houston Rockets did it on their way to a pair of titles and the 1948-49 Washington Capitols have owned a share of this record 67 years — you can try as hard as you want to diminish this record as insignificant, but it's simply something that most teams cannot accomplish, which makes it worthy of our recognition and contemplation for a moment.

Now the question is how long the Warriors can keep this thing going — without getting too cocky, the next target in their sites should probably be the 33 consecutive wins mark that the 1972-73 L.A. Lakers set. Dating back to last season, the Warriors have now won 20 straight regular season games and, given the way this team has already overcome obstacles this season, it's hard to rule out winning 13 more.
And why stop there? Why not aim for 33 straight in a single season, just to remove any controversy or asterisks?
But for now, we should probably just bask in the glory of what this team is: they're playing championship ball right now and we should maintain confidence that they'll be competing for the Larry O'Brien Trophy for years to come.
I take that back, not an exhibition game. Like one of those midnight madness college scrimmages where you play against your own team
