Three reasons the Warriors could get even better

Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

Let me first tell you the story of the Wise Man and the Rabbi:

Once upon a time, there were two Warriors fans arguing. One fan argued that the Warriors are perfect with their 28-1 record. The other fan argued that they are not perfect – they can be even better. A Rabbi was standing near them and listened to them argue for hours. The Rabbi also saw a Wise Man nodding in approval when each fan spoke. Finally, the Rabbi went to the Wise Man and said, "One fan says that the Warriors are perfect and the other fan says that they are not. And you agree with them both. How can they both be right?" And the Wise Man said, "You are right."

In a sense, they are both right. But I agree with the fan who feels that the Warriors can be even better. How can that be? Well, I’m glad that you didn’t ask. But here’s what I think:

The Warriors bench is underperforming

.

Come on, Mo!

Recently, one of our members here, Scipio, wrote an excellent Fan Post illustrating the struggles of the Warriors bench. He highlighted the point differential of our bench versus the San Antonio Spurs’ bench. His findings are startling. The Spurs’ bench is performing much better than our bench. Of course, the Spurs beat the 76ers by 50 points, so perhaps that is an outlier. This could be right since the 76ers owners have been out and out lying to their fans about how that team will get better. Of course, they have only gotten worse. Is the Warriors bench not scoring well? Is their defense not performing well? I agree with Scipio that the defense has been underperforming. For a more complete analysis of that, you should check out Scipio’s Fan Post if you haven’t already done so. All that I can say is that Kerr has taken notes, and he will make the bench play better defense.

We sure miss Harrison Barnes

.

What a good looking young man!

Before getting injured, Harrison Barnes was having perhaps his best NBA season. Every part of his game has improved, whether it’s field goal shooting percentage, FT shooting, defense, you name it. He was on track to perhaps make the All-Star team. But injuries happen. Stuff happens. But we sure miss HB. I can’t wait for him to return. And when he does, we will be that much better.

Kerr is still missing in action

.

Okay, it's time to heal your back for a back-to-back Championship

Walton has done an amazing job while Kerr has been away. Still, I have noticed some fans being critical of Walton’s coaching, particularly his substitution patterns. I don’t know enough about basketball to make a judgment on that. Please remember that I am only here to amuse you with my off-the-wall musings. However, I was mad at Walton for having Curry in the game when we were ahead by 20 points in the 4th quarter of a recent game. And this was after Curry suffered a calf injury. To me, that was simply inexplicable.

Final thoughts

After we beat the Milwaukee Bucks to avenge the earlier loss to them, Coach Kerr said, "I was very disappointed in our performance. We are better than that. For us to allow 70 points in the first half to the Bucks, which is a low-scoring team, is very disappointing to me." And after we beat LeBron James and the Cavs on Christmas day, Draymond Green said, "What’s our record now? 28-1? Well, that’s interesting because, quite frankly, we are not playing well. We are much better than this." Wow!
