2015 NBA D-League All-Star Preview: East Futures vs. West Prospects

James Michael McAdoo and Elliot Williams of the Santa Cruz Warriors were selected to play in the D-League All-Star Game. While McAdoo won't be playing, a familiar name will be suiting up and he's worth watching.

The D-League All-Star events have usually gone unnoticed during All-Star Weekend in past years until last year's D-League dunk contest help save the underwhelming NBA slam dunk fest. Although most D-League players do not make it to the NBA, there is always a crop of guys who have found their way to the association. Whether undrafted rookies or veterans attempting a comeback, the D-League has become a trampoline for players who want to prove they can make the bounce to the NBA. Additionally, under the bright lights of Brooklyn, prospects will certainly have the chance to impress scouts and front offices in attendance much like the D-League Showcase.

Last season, nine NBA D-League All-Stars earned call-ups including 2014 D-League All-Star MVP & current Philadelphia 76er Robert Covington and current Minnesota Timberwolves guard Troy Daniels. Some of those selected in this year's D-League All-Star game have already been called up while others may possibly be on NBA teams' radars.

Such guys including, Lorenzo Brown, JaMychal Green and James Michael McAdoo are ineligible to play in the event due to their status with their current teams (Timberwolves, Grizzlies and Warriors). Hamilton will also be sitting out the game because of personal reasons.

It is unfortunate that McAdoo will not be participating in this rewarding exhibition game. McAdoo has been a monster for the Santa Cruz Warriors averaging 19.3 points, 9.6 rebounds, 2.4 blocks and 2.0 steals in 22 games. His call-up to Golden State has been well-deserved and may possibly be a long-term destination.

Meanwhile, his Santa Cruz teammate, Elliot Williams is seventh in scoring at 20.1 per game and also dishes out 7.6 assists per game. The combo guard has NBA experience under his belt, having played a solid 17 minutes a game for the 76ers last season and has earned two 10-day stints with the Utah Jazz this year.

The D-League All-Star game will be no different than the NBA All-Star game -- minimal defense, barrage of three-pointers and highlight reel dunks & alley oops. With that being said, look for current D-League leading scorer Seth Curry to light it up from deep. The former Warrior and current Erie Bayhawk is not an unfamiliar name and he strokes the ball from three just like his brother Stephen Curry. Averaging almost a 50/50/90 line this season in the D-League, Seth is hungry for another shot in the NBA. Could a stellar showing in Brooklyn give him just that?
