Leonard led the NBA with 2.3 steals per game in the regular season and helped the Spurs finish third in defensive rating according to Hollinger's NBA Team Statistics.
In a two-way battle, Leonard had 37 first-place votes and 333 total points while Golden State Warriors' Draymond Green tallied 45 first-place votes and 317 total points, which creates the weird dynamic of a player with more first place votes losing the award.
Meanwhile, Warriors' Andrew Bogut received 31 overall points, finishing sixth in balloting.
