The Memphis Grizzlies beat the Portland Trail Blazers in the first round of the 2015 NBA Playoffs with a 99-93 Game 5 win at the FedExForum tonight.
As probably expected against the Grizzlies, rebounding proved to be the big key in their Game 5 win, according to Dave Deckard of SB Nation's BlazersEdge.
Portland could not secure a rebound to save their lives. Second chance after second chance allowed a struggling Grizzlies offense to produce points despite their miscues...Had the Blazers been able to secure a rebound it would have been enough to provide a win. But the Grizzlies ended up with 15 offensive boards. That single, massive flaw proved fatal.
Despite a valiant effort from the Blazers to try to stay alive, the Grizzlies will now advance to face the top-seeded Golden State Warriors in the second round.
The Warriors went 2-1 against the Grizzlies this season, winning the last two games, including a dominant 107-84 win in Memphis on March 27.
The big question for this second round series, of course, is the health of Mike Conley, who suffered a facial fracture in Game 3 of the series against the Blazers. SB Nation's Grizzly Bear Blues has you covered with updates on Conley in their storystream tracking that injury as the news develops, but as of right this moment we simply don't know when or if Conley will be available for a series against the Warriors. As written earlier today, that could really be the difference in the upcoming second round series with the Warriors.
Stay tuned for more from us over the next few days to preview this series as we
continue to find ways to kill time during this week off start to get hyped about the Warriors' second round opponent.
