The Golden State Warriors announced today that guards Cameron Jones, Phil Pressey and Elliot Williams were waived, effectively finalizing their roster for the 2016-17 season just before their final preseason game against the Trail Blazers on Friday night.
Though waived, Pressey won’t go far. He had a guaranteed deal, so it is likely he will see time with the Santa Cruz Warriors.
The moves mean that center and early fan favorite JaVale McGee has made the roster. McGee has impressed in his recent performances on the court, leaving little doubt about who would get the final roster spot. His offensive contributions have been a delight for fans everywhere. Yet McGee’s rim protection likely factored into the decision, as that is something the Warriors are sorely lacking this season with both Andrew Bogut and Festus Ezeli leaving this past offseason. His reputation and struggles have really made him the underdog story of this preseason.
