Stop me if you've heard this one before.
The Warriors' penchant for playing down to their opponents continued in Sunday's 133-120 win, which wasn't nearly as lopsided as a 13-point win would indicate. I don't want to go too far down that path before first giving a ton of credit to Earl Watson and the young Suns, who came into Oakland well-prepared and incredibly active. They consistently overplayed passing lanes, taking the Warriors' offense out of rhythm, while taking advantage of GSW on the other end in transition.
The nice thing about the Warriors is that they have Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, and Klay Thompson. Turns out that you don't really need a well-oiled offense to win games if you've got dudes who could be on a camping trip in Yosemite together and still each manage to score double digits.
This team managed to stay even with the Suns largely because of individual, mostly unguardable brilliance by their splash-hydra, even with a first quarter in which Purple Klayze looking suspiciously like the joke he has so oft become the butt of.
Even after a hot-shooting bonanza to close the third, Booker and Tucker helped the Suns take another lead in the 4th. Ultimately it took a fully operational Death Star lineup to put the kibosh on the Suns' rebellion. Steph and Klay both finished with 30, and KD finished with 29, which is mostly stupid because of how often it'll probably be repeated this season. Draymond Green pitched in with a composed glue game of 14 points, 11 assists, and 7 rebounds.
Golden State only won this game because of the ridiculous overpowering talent on their roster. This game should give Steve Kerr and friends some tape to pay attention to, if nothing else, as they head out for an east coast road trip starting Wednesday in Toronto.
