ESPN's Marc Stein and Zack Lowe report that the Los Angeles Clippers have agreed to trade Lance Stephenson and a 2019 protected first round pick to the Memphis Grizzlies in return for forward Jeff Green.
Green reunites with former Celtics turned Clippers head coach Doc Rivers. Green averaged 20.3 PPG in the 2013 playoffs for Boston, his last season which he played under Rivers according to ESPN Stats & Info.
The Clippers will now be the fourth team to find out that Jeff Green is not the answer.— Nate Duncan (@NateDuncanNBA) February 18, 2016
While the Clips didn't add any depth to their roster, Jeff Green will be able to benefit from playing with the likes of Chris Paul. The Clippers are hoping that Green can step in right away and increase production from the Small Forward position. Both Lance Stephenson and Paul Pierce have not lived up to preseason expectations for Los Angeles.
The Clippers haven't had a SF score 30 pts in their last 285 games. The last time a Clippers SF scored 30 was Nov. 26, 2012 (Caron Butler)— ESPN Stats & Info (@ESPNStatsInfo) February 18, 2016
Green is in the final year of his contract and can become a free agent after the season in July. Check back for more updates and analysis regarding the NBA Trade Deadline.
