Klay Thompson caught some flak from the social media hot take artists the other day after saying that today's gold medal game against Serbia would be like Game 7 (h/t BornInDaEB for the FanShot).
He didn't really specify which Game 7 -- the one against the Oklahoma City Thunder in the 2016 Western Conference Finals went quite well for the Golden State Warriors -- but it would cause quite a stir if Team USA's performance today resembles what happened to the favorite in the NBA Finals.
Regardless of Thompson's off-hand comment, Sean Deveney of Sporting News wrote that Thompson could be a significant factor in Team USA's performance today after having an up-and-down experience during his time in Rio this summer.
Thompson was huge in the tight win over France, making seven 3-pointers and finishing with 30 points...The American offense has been disjointed throughout the Olympics, sometimes getting scoring from Carmelo Anthony, sometimes from Kevin Durant and sometimes from Thompson, who will have to be on the floor because of his perimeter defense. If Thompson can have his shot going, it will open up better looks for Durant and Anthony.
Serbia is a formidable opponent that was within a missed wide open three of the U.S. when the two faced off in the preliminary round. Let's hope that the outcome of this so-called Game 7 experience goes better than the last one for Thompson and his Warriors teammates, Kevin Durant included.
