Warriors at Magic GameThread: Why on earth is there a game at 9 a.m. PST?

The Warriors face the Magic this morning in an, er, matinee.

Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

For reasons that I cannot find an explanation for, the Golden State Warriors will face the Orlando Magic this morning at 9 a.m. PST in Florida.

Now this is obviously a noon game in Orlando, but since it's apparently the first time since 1995 that the Warriors have played a game this early, I figured there had to be a reason ... and there doesn't seem to be one. So you'll be forgiven if you choose to sleep through this one and enjoy a possibly rainy Bay Area Sunday morning in bed.

Unfortunately, the Warriors actually have to wake up at some ridiculous time to play this game and John Denton from the Orlando Magic's website wrote that it could create an advantage for the home team.

Orlando is hopeful that another boisterous crowd, more improved play and the noon tipoff will throw the Warriors off their games...Also potentially working in the Magic’s favor: Golden State was scheduled to fly to Orlando following Friday’s win in Houston and practice, but they were forced to remain in Texas because of storms in the area. Instead, the Warriors used Saturday as a travel day to Orlando.

So rather than acting like the sky is falling if the Warriors lose this one, perhaps you should forgive them if they have a lapse and remember how you felt that last time you had to get your body in gear to play sports at 9 a.m...and how well you played.
