Explain One Play: Nick Young is Swaggy *D*

Video analysis of Nick Young’s defense, playmaking and swagging in the Timberwolves-Warriors game on Nov 8, 2017.

NBA: Minnesota Timberwolves at Golden State Warriors
Look, I’m defending! I’m really defending!!
Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

Nick Young has been in Steve Kerr’s doghouse for coming to Warriors camp out of shape, being confused in the team’s offensive scheme, and generally mystified in the defensive scheme. Last night was his best GSW game, logging +9 in his playing time. His previous games with more than 10 minutes play were: HOU (-10), NOP (-1), DAL (+6 in a huge blowout), DET (-16), DEN (+1). So Young has not been effective on court until now.

Here’s a video analyzing Nick Young’s defense, playmaking and, yes, offensive swaggery.

Nick Young is Swaggy *D* with defense and passes

Nick Young became Swaggy *D* last night, with defense and passing. Is it a trend?

He played with intensity on defense, and showed a willingness to pass, though perhaps his numbers were enhanced by some luck and being the last one to touch the ball before Klay Thompson and Stephen Curry shot.

Is it sustainable? Not sure about the results, but the attitude can be sustained if Nick Young commits fully to being Swaggy *D* hereafter.
