Steph Curry jerseys are flying off the shelves

Think an injury is keeping the most popular Warrior from selling jerseys? Think again.

A sprained ankle might be keeping Stephen Curry off of the basketball court, but it’s doing nothing to hurt his popularity. If anything, the two-time MVP’s fame has only increased since he limped off the court just over a week ago.

According to the DICK’S Sporting Goods Basketball Jersey Report, Curry had the NBA’s top-selling jersey this past week, despite not playing any games. That’s mighty impressive.

Perhaps NBA fans are more compelled to support stars when those players are ailing. Isaiah Thomas was fifth this week in jersey sales, as he nears his season debut for the Cleveland Cavaliers. And Gordon Hayward - out since opening night - had the 12th-most sales this week, ahead of healthy Boston Celtics stars Kyrie Irving and Al Horford.

A great week of jersey sales still wasn’t enough for Curry to eclipse LeBron James in the season standings; on the year, James is first, and Curry is second. Kevin Durant is right behind, with the third-most sales, with Klay Thompson 29th, and Draymond Green 36th.

These numbers only reflect the sales at DICK’S, but they tend to be right in line with the league totals. And one thing is for sure: Steph Curry is really popular.
