Bruce Fraser is one of the most important parts of the Warriors’ complicated fabric. Not only is he Steve Kerr’s right hand man — having been close friends since their playing days at the University of Arizona in the 80’s — but he is also tasked with getting the Warriors’ best players ready before games in addition to working on their individual shooting forms.
I can also report that Fraser is a heck of a nice dude. We met a few times at NBA Summer League, and he was incredibly generous with his time. I was working on a piece comparing NBA Summer League to the trials and travails of being a touring musician, and Fraser took a good amount of time out of his busy schedule to sit with me and answer my questions. After I’d sufficiently pestered him, trying to get some juicy quote about the similarities between the two different grinds, I thanked him for his time and shook his hand.
“That’s it?” he asked, smiling.
“Yup,” I said. “I think I can use all that. Thanks again!”
“Damn,” he laughed, “that was the easiest interview I’ve ever done. I wish they were all like that!” and then he chuckled and strolled back to the locker room where the team was waiting.
So, here’s hoping that “Q,” as he’s known, has a fantastic birthday. Cheers, man. You’re the best.
