All Star Weekend is upon us and Saturday night is oftentimes more entertaining than the All Star Game itself. We have the skills contest, the dunk contest and the three-point contest. The latter of which has been particularly fun for Warriors fans over the last couple of years.
As you might recall, the last two years have featured Splash Brother vs. Splash Brother as first Stephen Curry took the crown in 2015 with a ridiculous 27 points in the final round:
This was followed by Klay Thompson dethroning him last year in superb fashion, not missing any of his last eight shots, including his entire money ball rack, to match that 27 points (to Curry’s 23) and take the title.
This year, Curry has opted not to participate, saying that his time in this contest is done. He added that he had planned to do it until he won, and that he has now passed the torch, and his support, to his teammate. Thompson will be defending his title against Kyrie Irving, Eric Gordon, CJ McCollum, Kyle Lowry, Kemba Walker, Wesley Matthews and Nick Young.
Thompson is favored to repeat, but anything can happen. Irving has stated that he believes the Earth is flat. (It is not). But who knows what effect that belief will have on the physics of his shot or his general conception of the reality of the court itself. When you stop believing in science, anything seems possible, I guess.
