The Warriors Hip-Hop Covers: Draymond Green, 2017 NBA Defensive Player of the Year

Where Hip-Hop and Golden State meet.

I started a project in April called “The Warriors Hip-hop covers” immediately after I lost my design job of five years. The inspiration behind each cover swipe concept was to merge my love for dope hip-hop cover art with my favorite sports team, our Golden State Warriors. For this cover, I used a mixture of Adobe illustrator (desktop app) and Draw (tablet app) using my iPad Pro and Apple Pencil.

DPOY.

Prior to Draymond Green winning the 2017 NBA Defensive Player of the Year award, I drew this graphic to help hype up his claim to win the award. It’s a mash-up of him and Kendrick Lamar’s “Damn.” album that was released April of this year.

There were so many variations and memes made of this album cover, I felt changing the title from “Damn” to “DPOY” was fitting. It’s also one of my more popular illustrations to appeal to youth culture and the Warriors’ championship fan culture.

Enjoy!
