With the Warriors’ recent dominance, the franchise has become an international phenomenon, converting fans all over the world. Instagram user @hhhhytian, who’s from China, designed a neat picture combining the Warriors and SpongeBob universes. It hit Twitter on Friday; specifically, Klay Thompson as a starfish has gone pretty viral.
Stephen Curry, the homegrown star of the Warriors, is of course the protagonist SpongeBob SquarePants, eternally optimistic and cheerful. Klay Thompson is his best friend, the spacey and sincere Patrick Star.
The rest of the Warriors’ core fill out a colorful supporting cast: Kevin Durant is the surly yet relatable Squidward, Draymond Green is the ambitious but tiny villain Plankton, and Andre Iguodala is the greedy and hilarious boss Mr. Krabs. Ian Clark, Patrick McCaw, JaVale McGee, and Shaun Livingston also make appearances.
We at Golden State of Mind really appreciate the connection between the Warriors and their fans (we are first and foremost fans too!), and fan art is just one of the various ways we see this relationship thrive. It’s amazing to see Warriors fans in China connect with Warriors fans in America, overcoming the language barrier with a shared pop culture and meme-worthy content.
And, by the way, if you think this isn’t the right kind of offseason content...
