DeMarcus Cousins is switching up his shoe game, and making a splash in the sneaker world. The Golden State Warriors All-Star center has reportedly signed a deal with Puma, which just re-opened their basketball line this summer after being dormant for many years.

However, the deal is no sure thing. Nike now has 10 days to match Puma’s offer - something, it’s worth noting, they also had for Steph Curry when he signed with Under Armour. That said, between Cousins’ Achilles injury, and Nike’s general lack of interest in marketing centers, it seems likely that the sneaker giant will let Boogie move on.
For Puma, Cousins would be a huge get. They sports apparel company decided to jump back into basketball this summer, and immediately made a splash by hiring rapper and entertainment mogul Jay-Z to help lead their division.
In the few months that they’ve been back on the market, Puma has signed the top two picks in the 2018 draft, DeAndre Ayton and Marvin Bagley III, 2018 lottery picks Kevin Knox and Michael Porter Jr., 2018 first-round pick Zhaire Smith, veterans Rudy Gay and Terry Rozier, and WNBA star Skylar Diggins-Smith. They’re going hard at the basketball market, and Cousins could be their biggest signing to date.
